The Battle of Ashford was a battle during Robert's Rebellion. During it, Robert Baratheon was defeated by Lord Randyll Tarly, who commanded the army of House Tyrell. Afterward, Robert retreated to the Riverlands, hiding in Stoney Sept.
In the books
In the A Song of Ice and Fire books, the Battle of Ashford was a minor, inconclusive battle. Robert's defeat forced him to flee north, leaving the Stormlands open to be invaded by the loyalist armies of the Reach and Storm's End free to be sieged. Even though it was Randyll Tarly the one who commanded the Tyrell forces, Mace Tyrell would take credit for the victory.
