"I, Tywin Lannister, led the assault on Castamere to put down this rebellion."
―Tywin Lannister[src]

Castamere was a castle in the Westerlands and the seat of House Reyne, a vassal house holding fealty to House Lannister of Casterly Rock. It was located near Tarbeck Hall and the Crag.

It was destroyed by Tywin Lannister when House Reyne rose in rebellion against their liege lord, Tytos Lannister. Although the castle was destroyed it is immortalized in the song "The Rains of Castamere." By the end of the rebellion, Castamere had been put to the torch and all members of House Reyne executed.

Season 3

Queen Cersei tells Margaery Tyrell about the fall of Castamere and House Reyne in order to intimidate her. She implies that if House Tyrell rebels against House Lannister, they will suffer a similar fate.[1]
