David Nutter (born 1960) is a well-known American television director. He first came to attention directing episodes of The X-Files. In the 1990s and 2000s he developed a reputation as 'the pilot-whisperer', as he directed sixteen pilots in a row that went to series, including Space: Above and Beyond, Millennium, Smallville, Without a Trace, Supernatural, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and The Mentalist.

In addition he has worked on several other series, including Band of Brothers (for which he won an Emmy Award), The Sopranos and Entourage for HBO.

On Game of Thrones Nutter is working as an episode director, debuting in the second season and continuing in the third, for which he directed the two final episodes of the season[1].

In an interview with the Huffington Post, David Nutter confirmed he would be taking a break for Season 4, citing the enormous time commitment to work on the show, but hoped to return for a potential fifth season.[2] Nutter confirmed near the end of Season 4 that he will be returning for Season 5, to direct two episodes.[3]

In May 2014, Nutter stated that he will be directing episodes 9 and 10 of the fifth season.[4]
