In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Edric is the bastard son of Robert Baratheon and Delena Florent, who conceived him on the night of Stannis's wedding to Selyse Florent.[1] He was raised at Storm's End as the ward of Ser Cortnay Penrose,[2] making him the only one of Robert's bastards to receive a nobleman's education.[3] Robert has sent him nameday presents every year since his birth, including a pony, a sable cloak, and a warhammer.[4]
Stannis sends Edric to Dragonstone when he takes Storm's End.[5] While there, he is leeched and his blood is used to curse Joffrey Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark.[4] Davos later has him shipped to Lys[6] for fear that Stannis might burn him.[7] In Game of Thrones, this plot is instead given to Gendry.[8]
