Florian the Fool is the hero of a legend. According to the legend, he was a knight who fell in love with Jonquil when he first saw her bathing with her sisters in Maidenpool. Florian and Jonquil became lovers.[1] Many songs were written about them.

In the books

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Florian's story is the same.

Sansa reads about Florian while imprisoned in Maegor's Holdfast, following her father's arrest. When Dontos Hollard later offers to get her out of King's Landing, Sansa refers to him as "her Florian."

Prior to Battle of the Blackwater, the Hound demands Sansa to sing him a song. She fearfully stammers that she knows a song about Florian and Jonquil, but the Hound disdainfully refers to them as "a fool and his cunt", and warns her that one day he'll have another song from her.

Just before Dontos arrives and tells Sansa the battle is over, the Hound appears in her chamber, pointing a dagger to her throat, and demands that she sings him about Florian and Jonquil. Sansa is so frightened that she sings the Mother's hymn instead, and the Hound leaves.
