Wiki of Westeros

House Durrandon[1] of Storm's End is a former Great House of Westeros. It ruled over the Stormlands until Aegon's Conquest. It also held much of the Riverlands until they lost them to House Hoare. The head of House Durrandon held the title of Storm King. Their house words were "Ours is the Fury."

The house was founded by Durran Godsgrief, a legendary figure from the Age of Heroes. The last King of the Durrandon dynasty was Argilac the Arrogant. House Durrandon is extinct in name only; its heraldry, words, and family tradition survive through House Baratheon, which descends directly from Argilac's daughter Argella.

Shared sigil[]

The shared heraldry with House Baratheon is explained in the books.

During Aegon's Conquest, Orys Baratheon, one of Aegon I Targaryen's fiercest generals and rumored to be his bastard brother, slew Argilac the Arrogant, the last of the Storm Kings, during the battle "Last Storm". For this accomplishment, Orys was made Lord of Storm's End and was permitted by Aegon to found House Baratheon. Orys took the sigil and words of the defeated House Durrandon as his own and cemented his rule over the Stormlands by marrying Argella Durrandon, the daughter of the fallen Argilac. Argella was the last survivor of House Durrandon, and is officially extinct, but its female bloodline lived on in the Baratheon dynasty.

In the books[]

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, House Durrandon was the dynasty that claimed descent from Durran Godsgrief, the first Storm King and founder of Storm's End. King Arrec of House Durrandon was the last Storm King who ruled the Riverlands, conquered by his ancestors three hundred years before, losing it to the ironborn led by King Harwyn Hardhand of House Hoare.

House Durrandon seemingly left no other known surviving branches, and is officially extinct, but its female bloodline lived on in the Baratheon dynasty.

House Wensington from the Stormlands includes three black stags in their sigil, suggesting that they may have some relation to the Durrandons or the Baratheons.
