House Hornwood is a vassal house that holds fealty to House Stark of Winterfell. Their lands are southeast of Winterfell, located in a forested region. Their stronghold is a castle also called Hornwood. The Hornwood lands border the holdings of House Manderly to the south and House Bolton to the northeast.

The Hornwood sigil is a black bull moose on an orange field. Their motto is "Righteous in Wrath." They accompanied Robb Stark when he called his bannermen.[1]

In the books

In A Song of Ice and Fire, House Hornwood is a loyal vassal of the Starks. House Bolton is said to have designs on their fertile lands.

Members

  • Lord Halys Hornwood, the head of the family.
  • Lady Donella Manderly, Lord Halys's wife.
    • Daryn Hornwood, Lord Halys's son and heir.
    • Larence Snow, the Bastard of Hornwood, Lord Halys's illegitimate son.
  • Lady Berena Hornwood, Lord Halys's sister, wed to Leobald Tallhart.

After her husband and son were killed, Ramsay Snow kidnapped Lady Donella, raped her, and forced her to marry him and sign a will naming him her legal heir. Then he locked her in a cell and did not bring her food. When Rodrik Cassel arrived to free her, it was too late: she starved to death, after eating several of her own fingers. One of Ramsay's favored flaying tactics is to remove the skin from his victims' fingers and then leave them in agony that way, leaving them to gnaw off their own finger as the only way to stop the pain - Ramsay enjoys taunting his victims that he didn't "make" them gnaw their fingers off, and this was entirely their choice for which he cannot be blamed.
