Template:Lore "House Tyrell" is part of the "Histories & Lore", a special feature in the Blu-ray of Season 2 of Game of Thrones. It is narrated by Natalie Dormer as Lady Margaery Tyrell.

Synopsis for House Tyrell

Lady Margaery Tyrell details House Tyrell's history serving under House Gardener before the War of Conquest and House Targaryen afterwards including the revolt against the stupid king, before surrendering to King Robert Baratheon after he defeated the Targaryen dynasty.

Summary of House Tyrell

Lady Margaery Tyrell opens the history by saying House Tyrell trace their descent from the female line to the legandary King Garth 1st Greenhand Gardener, the first of his name King of the Reach who made the land bloom. But so too does every noble house around them. It seems dear ancestor King Garth 1st Greenhand Gardener planted as many flowers as he plucked. A king should have more consideration for his line.

For over 1,000 years his sons and grandsons ruled The Reach as House Gardener an old house in the Age of Heroes. The offshoots of his daughters grew into vast and powerful houses in their own right except for House Tyrell. We chose instead to serve their Gardener cousins faithfully as stewards to manage their stronghold regional capital Highgarden and the daily affairs of the Reach. Our words are "Growing Strong" and under their stewardship the Reach did just that, as did they. (The sigil for House Tyrell was a golden rose on green cloth before House Gardener had a green hand on plain cloth)

Until a blundering king almost cost us everything. Aegon I the Conqueror Targaryen landed in Westeros, and the last of the Gardener kings King Mern the 9th Gardener allied with the last king of the rock King Loren 1st "the last" Lannister, to repel Aegon's army. King Mern the 9th Gardener did not reconsider when he saw Aegon's dragons in front of him. The combined forces of both the Reach and the Rock were no match for the Targaryens' beasts. King Mern the 9th Gardener was killed in Field of Fire and House Gardener completely bye bye. Within a day, the Reach had lost its king, its ruling house and most of its army.

Thankfully for everyone her ancestor Harlen Tyrell had better sense. Until the Maesters sorted out the entail among the deceased cousins of King Mern the 9th Gardener, Harlen Tyrell was acting Lord of the capital Highgarden. To ensure peace and life in the Reach, he would yield the castle to Aegon 1st Conqueror Targaryen. The other castles and families then followed, as they had since the Dawn Age.

Aegon 1st Conqueror Targaryen had a continent to conquer, and the fertile Reach was too valuable to raze. He accepted the proposal from Harlen Tyrell and welcomed the Reach into his Kingdom. To show his gratitude, Aegon 1st Conqueror Targaryen awarded rule of Highgarden to Harlen Tyrell, the castle his family had served for 1,000 years, and made House Tyrell his Wardens of the South and Lords of the Reach, choosing them over older and greater families.

When the Targaryens fell, House Tyrell chose peace and prosperity over war and devastation, bending the knee to King Robert Baratheon, First of His Name. They returned to Highgarden to manage the affairs of the Reach, as they had for thousands of years and will for a thousand more. Other Great Houses take lions and wolves for their sigils, and draw power from the gold in their mountains or the cold of their winters. But mountains run dry, winter yields to spring, and the rose blooms once more.
