James Cosmo (born 24 May 1948) is a Scottish actor. He is best-known for playing older, veteran warriors in historical dramas and epics, such as Campbell in Braveheart, Glaucus in Troy (written by David Benioff), Hrothgar in The Last Legion and Hengist in the British TV series Merlin. His other roles include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (as Father Christmas) and recent guest roles on American TV series FlashForward, Castle and Sons of Anarchy.
In Game of Thrones Cosmo is playing Jeor Mormont, the Old Bear. He was confirmed in the role on 16 July 2010. He initially appeared as a guest star in the first season and joined the starring cast for the second season. He also voices the role of Jeor Mormont in the Game of Thrones role-playing computer game.
