Lord Larys Strong was the Master of Whisperers for Aegon II Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons.

Biography

After the death of Viserys I Targaryen, Larys was present at a Small Council meeting where he and several others proclaimed Prince Aegon the new king over Viserys' appointed heir, Princess Rhaenyra.[1]

In the books

Larys Strong was known as Larys the Clubfoot, and rarely spoke, preferring instead to listen. On the occasion that he did speak, it was either to be glib or share very important information. Like most Masters of Whisperers, he was enigmatic and cunning.

Larys was the son of Lord Lyonel Strong, who served on the Small Council of Viserys I Targaryen and brought Larys and his brother Harwin to court. Larys became the confessor and eventually the Master of Whisperers to Viserys. He inherited Harrenhal after his father and brother died in a fire at the castle. While the fire was considered an accident caused by the curse of Harrenhal, rumors spread that it had been started by Daemon Targaryen, Corlys Velaryon, Viserys or Larys himself. Each of them had reasons for wanting them dead, Larys' being inheritance.

After Rhaenyra took King's Landing, King Aegon and Larys could not be found, since the Master of Whisperers had disguised Aegon as a commoner and smuggled him to Dragonstone. Larys reasoned that Rhaenyra's own stronghold would be the last place anyone would look for Aegon, and was proved correct, with him and Aegon hiding on the island for half a year disguised as dragonseed smallfolk.

After the death of Rhaenyra, Aegon and Larys returned to King's Landing. When the Blacks' armies marched on the city and Aegon refused to surrender, the king was found dead by poisoning. As the Blacks arrived in King's Landing and the remaining Greens surrendered, Lord Cregan Stark was named Hand of the King by Rhaenyra's heir, Aegon III Targaryen. Cregan arrested Larys for poisoning Aegon and betraying his king. Larys refused to join the Night's Watch, and was thus personally beheaded by Lord Cregan, ending the main branch of House Strong.
