Master-at-arms,[1] or master of arms,[2] is a title held by the man, usually a knight, responsible for the training of soldiers in a castle in peacetime. This can includes sons and wards of the lord he serves. In wartime, he is actively involved in leading the defence of the castle along with the captain of the guard and the lord himself.
Known masters-at-arms[]
- Lord {Quenton Qoherys}, master-at-arms at Dragonstone. Later promoted to the rank of Lord of Harrenhal by Aegon I Targaryen.
- Ser {Alliser Thorne}, former master-at-arms at Castle Black. Executed by hanging by Jon Snow for treason.
- Ser {Rodrik Cassel}, master-at-arms at Winterfell. Executed by Theon Greyjoy.
- {Locke}, Master-at-Arms at the Dreadfort. Sent to the Wall and neck snapped by Bran Stark while warging into Hodor.
- Ser Samwell Stone, master-at-arms at Runestone.
- Endrew Tarth, master-at-arms at Castle Black.
- Unidentified master-at-arms at Bear Island.
