Orys Baratheon is an unseen character in Game of Thrones. He is not expected to appear in the series, being long dead by the time it starts. Orys Baratheon is the founder of House Baratheon.

Biography

Background

Orys Baratheon is the founder of House Baratheon and is the distant ancestor of King Robert Baratheon and his brothers Stannis and Renly.

Season 1

He has an entry in The Lineage and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms which reveals that he married Argalia, the daughter of the last Storm King, Argalic the Arrogant.[1]

In the books

In the Song of Ice and Fire novels, Orys was a general in the army of Aegon the Conqueror, the first Targaryen king of the Seven Kingdoms. According to rumour, he was also Aegon's bastard half-brother. Orys led a contingent of Aegon's army into the Stormlands to confront the Storm King, Argilac the Arrogant (spelt 'Argalic' in the TV series and 'Argilac' in the BluRay featurette). Rather than stand siege behind the formidable walls of Storm's End, Argilac rode out to give open battle. Orys's forces engaged and defeated the storm lords. Argilac was killed during the engagement. For his leal service and loyalty, Orys was given Argilac's lands, castle, banner, motto and daughter, as well as a bill of legitimacy from King Aegon.
