"Corruption! Yes, we are swollen, bloated, foul! Brother fornicates with sister in the bed of kings, and we're surprised when the fruit of their incest is rotten?! Yes, a rotten king!"
―the protestor to a crowd[src]

A protestor is an unnamed minor character in he second season. He is played by guest star Edward Tudor Pole and only appears in "The Ghost of Harrenhal." He spreads dissent against the rule of King Joffrey Baratheon and House Lannister.

Biography

Background

He is a resident of King's Landing.

Season 2

The protestor is addressing a group of smallfolk on the streets of King's Landing. He says that the city is foul with corruption and blames the rumour that King Joffrey Baratheon is the product of incest between Queen Cersei and her brother Jaime Lannister.

Protestor 2x5

Tryion and Bronn in the crowd listening to the Protester in "The Ghost of Harrenhal".

He calls Joffrey a rotten king. The protestor says that Joffrey is a “dancing King, prancing down his bloodstained halls to the tune of a twisted demon monkey.” The crowd erupts in laughter. Unbeknownst to the protestor the target of his ridicule Tyrion Lannister is listening to his words. Tyrion finds the imagery imaginative, until Bronn points out that Tyrion is the "demon monkey". Tyrion is angry, as he is trying to save these people. Bronn agrees.[1]

In the books

In the A Song of Ice and Fire books a number of individuals, particularly 'begging brothers' - the lowest among the clergy of the Faith of the Seven - begin to speak out against King Joffrey, Queen Cersei and Tyrion, incensed by Stannis' letter and the growing famine in King's Landing due to House Tyrell closing off the Roseroad - through which most of the foodstuff reaches the capital.
