The Raid on Sea Dragon Point was a battle during the Greyjoy Rebellion. It was a raid led by Royland Degore on the ironborn-occupied Sea Dragon Point, which resulted in the destruction of a dozen Greyjoy longships.
After Balon Greyjoy declared the Iron Islands' independence, his brothers Euron and Victarion Greyjoy led an attack on Lannisport, destroying the Lannister fleet docked at Lannisport, allowing the ironborn to raid all along the western coastline of Westeros, such as Seagard. The ironborn managed to get to the North and landed on Sea Dragon Point to raid.
Royland Degore’s family was raped and murdered by ironborn, and he joined Lord Forrester’s army. Degore had a natural grasp of military tactics and strategy, which would come to play in the raid.
As the story goes, Degore led a nighttime raid on Sea Dragon Point, where he cut the moorings of a dozen Greyjoy longships and burned the drifting ships to ash - along with all the Ironborn on board.
Degore was given charge of a battalion and came to play a crucial role in the Siege of Pyke that ended the war. In the months that followed, King Robert awarded Royland a knighthood and Lord Forrester asked him to serve as Ironrath’s Master-at-Arms. Ser Royland still holds the position and is known for his military expertise… as well as his legendary temper.
In the booksEdit
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, no raid is mentioned, although the ironborn have held Sea Dragon Point at times.
