- "A Stark wrestled an ironborn for Bear Island and gave it to the Mormonts."
- ―Jon Snow
Rodrik Stark was a King in the North.
Biography[]
According to legend, Rodrik won Bear Island in a wrestling match with an ironborn and then granted House Mormont lordship over it.[1][2][3]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, King Rodrik Stark's story is the same. Presumably he took Bear Island from the ironborn, who under the rule of Qhored Hoare ruled much of the western coast of Westeros, from Bear Island to the Arbor.
