Sean Bean (born 17 April 1959) is an English actor who has worked in film, television and theatrical productions, as well as providing voice-overs for commercials and computer games.

He first became well known for his portrayal of Richard Sharpe in the long-running British television series Sharpe, before appearing as Boromir in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. He has also carved out a role as a Hollywood villain, appearing in antagonistic roles in films such as Patriot Games, GoldenEye and National Treasure.Other notable works include Alec Trevelyan in the James Bond film GoldenEye, Odysseus in Troy, Dr. Merrick in The Island, Ian Howe in National Treasure, Zeus in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and Ulric in Black Death; which also starred Game of Thrones cast members Emun Elliott and Carice van Houten.

He starred in HBO's Game of Thrones as Lord Eddard Stark. He was announced in the role on 19 July 2009. He appeared in nine episodes of the first season (though was credited for all ten) before being written out, following the character's fate as depicted in the novel.

In an interview after Season 4 aired, Bean mentioned that he would enjoy possibly returning to Game of Thrones to play Ned Stark in flashback scenes.[1]
