Septons are the male clergy of the Faith of the Seven. They preside over religious ceremonies such as weddings. They have taken vows of celibacy, and often take important positions in a noble household. In contrast, female clergy are known as septas. The leader of the Faith of the Seven is known as the High Septon.

In the books Edit

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the Faith is ruled over by a council known as the Most Devout. The head of the Faith is known as the High Septon, who resides within the Great Sept of Baelor in the city of King's Landing. Whilst septons and septas serve on the council of the Most Devout, the High Septon is usually male.
