"Lord Bolton charged me with bringing him back to King's Landing... alive. And that's what I aim to do."
―Steelshanks to Locke about Jaime Lannister.[src]

Steelshanks is a Northern man-at-arms sworn to House Bolton.

Biography[]

Background[]

Steelshanks is a Northern man-at-arms sworn to House Bolton and fighting for his liege lord in the War of the Five Kings.[1]

Game of Thrones: Season 3[]

Steelshanks and Locke - The Bear and the Maiden Fair

Steelshanks needs Jaime alive.

Roose Bolton charges Steelshanks with escorting Jaime safely back to King's Landing. When Jaime decides to return to Harrenhal to save Brienne from Locke, he forces Steelshanks to accompany him by threatening to dishonestly tell his father Tywin that Steelshanks is responsible for Jaime's missing hand, but also offers to lie and say he was the one who saved him.[1]

As Jaime attempts to rescue Brienne from the bear in the pit, Steelshanks is angrily questioned by Locke as to why he is attacking his bear, and Steelshanks explains that Roose Bolton charged him with bringing Jaime back to King's Landing alive.[1]

In the books[]

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, "Steelshanks" Walton is a man-at-arms sworn to House Bolton. He serves Roose Bolton as his captain. He got his nickname from the steel greaves he wears over his long legs. According to Jaime, Walton is blunt, brusque, brutal, at heart a simple soldier.

Walton is among Roose Bolton's soldiers who capture Harrenhal. He escorts Jaime and Brienne to King's Landing. From there, he escorts "Arya Stark" to the Boltons, to wed Ramsay.

In the fifth novel, Walton commands the Boltons' guards when they stay at Barrowton. He also attends Ramsay's wedding at Winterfell.
