Given that this episode assuredly includes the song (we've had unconfirmed reports that the soldiers sing it during the bear pit scene), I think we should save ourselves the hassle of making a lot of redirects later, by moving this now to "The Bear and the Maiden Fair (episode)" and making a page about the song.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:33, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
Talisa's Valyrian letterEdit
The Inside Game of Thrones feature put up an image of Talisa's letter, written in Valyrian. http://wicnet.tumblr.com/image/50311539058
Now, as a medieval history student I've taken some paleography - not great, but enough to know the basics. Even so, what should send up red flags for everyone is that this letter is blatantly written in English characters (Latin alphabet), when in the books, Valyrian is described as using a glyph-based writing system. Only someone pretending to be from the Free Cities, who learned the language but not the harder task of learning the writing system, would write such a letter.
Anyway, I can't pin down the exact hand they're using, but it has certain key features: basic Uncial "d", "r" descends below the baseline, "s" descends below he baseline, closed-head pointed "a", Uncial "T", descenders curve to the left. I can't pin this down, sort of a hybrid gothic hand. It does use certain contractions (those wavy lines over certain words aren't like Spanish accent marks; they're when common word elements get abbreviated).
This is what I can discern:
