I had wanted to have a live chat about the shock of seeing Jaime's hand chopped off in the last episode of Game of Thrones. Unfortunately I missed my opportunity to chat. I ask about the idea of redemption and if Jaime can or will have it. I was saddened by the mean surprise of his sword hand being chopped off, he couldn't even defend himself. When he manipulated the stopping of the rape with the great warrior woman, I saw revealed a deeper sense of compassion and honor. For me, this was redemptive. Is this an irony of the story? That we get what we deserve? Having his hand cut off kills him, it takes away any personal power he had, or will ever have. I have not read the books deliberately because I wish to guess the outcomes.
