Daenerys as Khaleesi Edit

The term is khaleesi, which is the female version of khal, basically the equivalent of queen to king. So if Khal Drogo is the 'king' of his horde of Dothraki, Khaleesi Daenerys is the 'queen'.--Werthead 21:52, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

No, Arya wasn't stabbed. She and Syrio were practicing with wooden swords. Eddard heard the sound of real steel swords clashing because he had a premonition that it might come to warfare between the Starks and Lannisters.--Werthead 22:05, May 2, 2011 (UTC)

Blocking Edit

Yup, I don't want to block anyone who is editing in good faith and is making mistakes, but this appears to be some kind of low-level trolling. So done.--Werthead 16:29, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I stayed up an extra half-hour last night keeping a lid on it. They stopped after I messaged them so I assumed they'd gotten the message but obviously not. However, it does raise the question maybe we should do something about the Khal Drogo infobox, since it seems to go weird every time someone just looks at the page. Rather than an infobox maybe we need a character template outlining their house, allegiances and so on? That would also help standardise all the main pictures on the character pages which at the moment are different sizes and shapes. I might take a look at doing that.--Werthead 16:35, May 11, 2011 (UTC)
Very bizarre. I'll have to be on the lookout for them sneaking back. In the meantime I've borrowed the True Blood Wikia character template for us to use :-) I've been road-testing it on Tyrion Lannister's page but I don't know how to amend the Template:Character so that the fields not in use don't show up. Any ideas?--Werthead 17:04, May 11, 2011 (UTC)

Inactive table fields Edit

I spent some time going through the character tables. The two tables (here and on the True Blood Wiki) are identical, so the only answer is that TB Wiki has something enabled that we don't here. Googling suggests it might be the 'hiddenStructure' command, which apparently is disabled on Wikis by default and has to be either enabled or some kind of custom script has to be used to replicate it. I have zero idea how to do either :-) We need a template expert. Do you know anyone on TB Wiki who might be up for the job? I asked the people on Wiki of Ice and Fire, but they're not using Wikia and don't know how its template code works. --Werthead 13:00, May 14, 2011 (UTC)

Good suggestion! I've just done that, hope they get back to us soon :-) --Werthead 14:43, May 14, 2011 (UTC)
::And it's fixed. Excellent stuff. We can now add the character template to every character page without a problem :-) --Werthead 10:57, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Infobox pics Edit

Screencaps from trailers for forthcoming episodes, plus a bit of guesswork (which is sometimes wrong; Sam isn't in Episode 3 so the current image for the episode is wrong, but I haven't found a better one showing Jon and the gang at Castle Black). Plus HBO, like most US networks, releases 'official photographs' a week or two before the episode airs. They tend to be sneaked out on various corporate websites and sometimes in press releases. For TRUE BLOOD S4 your best bet is to screencap the trailers and teasers HBO releases in the run-up to the season starting.--Werthead 23:18, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Excellent pic! Cheers for finding that.--Werthead 13:47, May 18, 2011 (UTC)
Great job on the cast portal. Be aware that I've just had to delete a lot of spam pages, so that's something we have to keep an eye on.--Werthead 21:51, May 18, 2011 (UTC)
Oh yeah, I tweaked the portal a little bit and that reminded me to change Khal Drogo's page name. His name is 'Drogo', 'Khal' is a title like Lord or King. I can't remember why I created his page with his title on it, might be because everyone calls him 'Khal Drogo' all the time :-) I switched it to 'Drogo' to be consistent with the rest of the Wiki and left a redirect behind.--Werthead 22:01, May 18, 2011 (UTC)

HBO Go Edit

No, I'm watching in the UK, so only get to see the episodes on Monday evenings, and am relying on American friends to provide me with the synopsis to update each episode after US transmission :-) I don't think we should update Episode 7's entry until it airs on HBO proper next week, since only a small number of people have seen the preview on HBO Go.--Werthead 18:24, May 23, 2011 (UTC)

Policies page Edit

We now have a Policies and guidelines page. Let me know what you think and what else could be added. Thanks! --Werthead 10:49, May 25, 2011 (UTC)

Attempts to add spoilers to the site Edit

I've had to revert several attempts to add spoilers to articles, particularly the Eddard and Daenerys ones. Just to ask people to keep an eye out for that, as I might not be around much over the weekend. Thanks to everyone for their great work, looks like we've got a good team building up here now! --Werthead 13:11, May 27, 2011 (UTC)

Blocking Edit

Done. I've also blocked two IPs that were attempting to add Spanish advertising spam to various pages :-) --Werthead 18:37, June 6, 2011 (UTC)

Admin Edit

I think we need more admins for the Wiki, so I want to know if you fancy the job? The Wiki has gotten so big and active that it's more than I can handle by myself, and it would be a huge relief knowing that there's someone who can deal with trolls and spam when I'm not around. What do you reckon? I'm asking LordofOnions as well :-) --Werthead 18:50, June 10, 2011 (UTC)

Cool, done :-) --Werthead 13:05, June 12, 2011 (UTC)

Qotho Edit

Except he appears in Winter is Coming. Lord Snow might have been the first he filmed for, but chronologically he appears in the first episode accompanying Drogo to inspect his bride. Cartman!Talk!
*No problem.

Images Edit

It might be an idea to check the images we have already before adding new ones. I've noticed we have the same image uploaded 2 or 3 times in some cases, particularly with the official HBO promo pics :-) --Werthead 21:28, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Could do. The Wiki logo needs to change though, as we nicked it from the computer game people without permission, and it's for a different medium. I'll check with the guys at HBO to see if we can use the official show logo one, but I suspect we'll have to make our own. And I think we need to use the images we have a bit better. There's a few without any links, so we can get rid of those or maybe use them to flesh out articles.--Werthead 21:34, June 14, 2011 (UTC)

Fire and Blood Edit

Have you seen the new episode yet? How did you take it? LordofOnions (Talk) 22:30, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Well one of your favourite characters did die. Are you going to read the books? LordofOnions (Talk) 23:14, June 20, 2011 (UTC)

Spammer Edit

KarinS has been spamming all day since he joined like this morning. I'm not sure whether this is bannable here, but on most other wikis it is. Rambo362 01:33, June 23, 2011 (UTC)

Signature Edit

How do you put a picture as a signature?

Jordan 'The Blur' Farrell 22:39, June 25, 2011 (UTC) (see how lame that looks)

Thanks, i think its worked, just checking now {{SUBST:User:Jordan 'The Blur' Farrell/sig.}} 08:45, June 26, 2011 (UTC)

well didn't work, going for another try

Hi, i've tried it several times, but the last bit with the preferences isn't working. Any ideas?

I've tried, i've failed, thanks anyway.

Let's move to the Help desk? Edit

Most questions and discussions regarding the organization of the site are done via the 'Talk' pages of people, which is why Werthead's has already grown tremendously :) However, it's perhaps not the most useful way to conduct such talks:
* Werthead gets swamped with questions;
* Other sysadmins could perhaps have helped;
* A questions and its answer are spread over two talk pages (Werthead's and the talk page of the one asking);
* Other users thereby often miss a question or its resolution.

So I was wondering if we perhaps could find a designated, more public place for such matters. Turns out that the wiki has an in-built forum with it's own [[Forum:Help_desk|Help desk section! Why not use that from now on? I've kick-started the forum's Help Desk with a first message. Shall we try, and then see how we like this method...?

Emmy nominations Edit

Thanks for posting the blog about GoT Emmy nominations, I was just about to do it myself when I saw yours. Hope you don't mind if I edit your post to expand on the story, with a list of all the nominations? :) Ausir(talk) @fandom 19:58, July 14, 2011 (UTC)
:By the way, some subjects can be exciting so it's hard to resist, but it's generally best not to put exclamation marks at the end of blog post titles - the reason is that often when you copypaste it to a forum, IM or whatever, the target site/application doesn't treat the ! as part of the link, which results in a broken link. So best to avoid it altogether. Ausir(talk) @fandom 20:46, July 14, 2011 (UTC)

Warning users Edit

Do you mean you've blocked them? That wasn't necessary yet, I think. But keeping an eye on them is useful. - regards, KarinS 18:45, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

Ah, didn't know about that policy. Next time I'll be more strict :) - Regards, KarinS 20:35, August 16, 2011 (UTC)

==Guess Who?==
Hey Buffy, well I just saw one of the Season 5 promo pics. For Pam. As I recall besides me Pam is your favorite character. Looking For to the summer. Oh god waiting suck. XOXO.

Did you know Eric's birthday is Christmas:
Did you Cat's last name is INGERSLEV?
Yeah the last message is from me 2.

Message Edit

Hi Buffy,

Very belated thanks for the welcome. I was wondering about our season pages and why we title them "Overview" e.g. Overview Season 1. I read somewhere that it is to avoid confusion with the category pages but I have not seen this done elsewhere on wikia sites for television. It complicates internal links and isn't that obvious to search for as a new user.

I've created an infobox template for the season pages, hoping that there are more to come! Is it OK?

King regards,

--Opark 77 14:15, January 20, 2012 (UTC)

Lead, Biograpy and Background sections for characters Edit

I have been considering restructuring the character articles and have posted my ideas in the forum. I would really appreciate your thoughts.--Opark 77 15:03, February 9, 2012 (UTC)

Direwolf cast portal Edit

Good job, nice idea!--Opark 77 11:18, March 13, 2012 (UTC)
:Thanks for the reply. It inspired me to think about doing something similar for organizations like the small council and the Kingsguard. Also, we should totally do the same for the dragons later this year once they get names!--Opark 77 14:10, March 13, 2012 (UTC)

Example 4 Edit

Needs your vote! See Forum: Proposal for a new skin.--Opark 77 14:13, March 13, 2012 (UTC)

EW photo shoot Edit

Sorry I made you sad! I think they are of good quality but are no better than the excellent season 2 set photographs by Helen Sloan that you added a month or so ago, in fact several of those are at a higher resolution.

My big issue with these images is that while Clarke and Headey are wearing their wigs, Dinklage and Coster-Waldau do not really look like they do in the show because it is the off season and their hair has not been lightened. Clarke's make-up is also way off the quality of the show and her dark eyebrows stand out! I have read complaints on about these images and how the producers are messing up the adaptation by not coloring their hair. I don't want to further that bad feeling by creating the impression that these are from the show. Instead, I want us to be very clear with our readers that these images are not from the production itself but rather through the filter of a magazine photo shoot that used borrowed costumes. To achieve that they need to have a caption where they are used which necessitates them being in a gallery rather than in an infobox. I am not going to remove any of them - just move them around the articles. Does that make sense?--Opark 77 08:30, March 17, 2012 (UTC)

We know what they look like in season 2 because we have official publicity images from HBO and trailer footage of these characters. On direct comparison these images are noticeably different to the season 2 appearance of the characters. They are not from season 2 of the show, they are from a magazine photo shoot advertising season 2 of the show. I also think we should consider the licensing implications of placing them so prominently. They are the property of Entertainment Weekly and we do not have permission to use them as we do with images from HBO. I think it is important that we acknowledge EW as the source where we are using them to support our claim that we are making a fair use of the images.--Opark 77 08:38, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
You obviously feel strongly about this. Once again I am sorry if I have upset you. That was not my intent. I honestly think that it is in this project's best interests to be careful how we use fair use images from photo shoots. I did not want to give the impression that "what I say goes" I was merely trying to explain my reasoning. Clearly I have not convinced you. This is a collaborative project and we should seek consensus wherever there is a disagreement about how to proceed. To that end I suggest we ask some other editors their opinion. I will stop renaming / moving these images. I will return later and set up a forum topic for this issue (unless you would like to go ahead and do that). Once again apologies if I upset you and if I created the impression that my word is any kind of rule here.--Opark 77 09:22, March 17, 2012 (UTC)
I have started a forum topic about this issue. I would really appreciate you giving your side there if you have time. I have also directly asked User:XD1, User:Werthead and User:Gonzalo84 for their input as they are active editors and the forum tends to be slow.--Opark 77 11:15, March 18, 2012 (UTC)

Skin Edit

The new egg poster led to User:XD1 creating a new example, the poll unfortunately reset when I added it. There were only three votes on there so I added a link to the main page (in Current Poll) this time hoping to get some more attention. Would you mind taking another look at Forum:Proposal for a new skin?--Opark 77 15:43, March 21, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Buffy! Long time, no see. I wanted to know if I could get unblocked from the True Blood Wikia? I learned my lesson, and I miss the Wikia!

Carlos Los Davis 01:01, March 31, 2012 (UTC)

File:StannisSeason2PromoHBO.jpg Edit

Thanks for uploading File:StannisSeason2PromoHBO.jpg. It's a good looking poster. Please could you not the source in the image description?

I added the licensing tag {{Permission}}. Given that we have HBO's permission to use screenshots I think that is ok. Or do you think it would be better to use {{fairuse}} for posters?--Opark 77 19:22, April 1, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. No need to apologize, thanks for your help.--Opark 77 21:18, April 1, 2012 (UTC)

Weeks ahead Edit

Sorry about that. I did not intend to. I must have been editing the old version by mistake.--Opark 77 16:18, April 2, 2012 (UTC)

Moved the trailer to the top as you suggested. I am a bit confused about the slider - I moved the quiz to the third position as it is slightly less relevant now that season 2 is under way. The slider still seems to have all 4 slides when I look at the main page (House Stark, Brienne, the quiz and the books).--Opark 77 16:29, April 2, 2012 (UTC)
