Your version was much closer to the original than mine, now that I know that you can do them that way the others will go faster. I thought you had to make them very different. The only apostrophe that I found that I hadn't put in was the one for "father's bed". I tried to check thoroughly, was that the only mistake? Should the photo of Theon with the direwolf have been put in the gallery rather than in the Season 1 section?Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 05:59, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Gonzalo84,

Yes, each Aerys should have been followed by an apostrophe. Darn, this time I really thought I had checked enough. Maybe I need to wait an hour, take a break and then reread. I'll try that. Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 06:01, January 3, 2013 (UTC)

I tried emailing you the other week in regards to an exclusive opportunity; hopefully, it’ll be of interest! In conjunction with Telltale Games, Wikia will be working to create a unique experience for visitors of our Game of Thrones community, specifically the pages centered on the episodic Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game. I wanted to see if you'd be interested in joining us.

Buffy Wiki part deux
+
I’m contacting select fans of both the HBO series and the Telltale Tale Games series to see if they’d like to help with this initiative, and your Wikia activity identifies you as a great prospect. Participation in the project will involve sneak peeks at upcoming episodes, exclusive access to game developers, and other great perks not available to the general public.
  +
Interested? If so, the first step is to join us in the Wikia Fan Studio -- the virtual environment where our project will take place.
  +
You should’ve already received an invitation to register; if you haven’t, please do let me know and one will be sent promptly. Even if you aren't interested in this particular project, registering with the Fan Studio will allow us to match you with other upcoming projects that could be a great fit!
  +
Remember, you’re never under any obligation to participate in a project, and the info you provide is kept in accordance with our privacy policy.
  +
And please do refer any other Wikia community members you think might be a fit for this program by passing along a link to their user page. We value your opinion and want to insure the best candidates are invited into this project.

Ok, clarify for me... give me an example what you would write past tense and what you wouldn't... lol. Sorry, I can be slow at times. And don't sell yourself short, you still register roughly around 35-40thousand views/hits a day on the wiki :) That's really good! Ok, I won't mess with the pic licensing- I may  create a generic license statement though and put it on the community page somewhere. Just so we have it somewhere as a disclaimer, in case they do ever look. 16:08, January 3, 2013 (UTC)
+
Let me know if you are interested or have any questions,
: Ok, I gotcha now :) Thanks. Oh, I also want you to consider making Ownerman an Admin. I've noticed he's made over 2,000 edits, and he really deserved it more than me. I think he could help me a lot while you are on hiatus. Just a thought :D -- 03:16, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

Knakveey (talk) 00:36, January 16, 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I did add some new houses to put people in the Catagories of the Houses that their information boxes said they owed alligence to. Most of these went into houses that had already been established, Stark and Lannister primarily. I think I did add three or four Houses, but then I went back and deleted two of them, because you said not to make catagories that had less than three entries. I think you mean that I didn't add them to the Houses Catagory. Thanks for the heads up, I will go and do so now.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 04:42, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

I agree they are pointless, that is why I do a search and see how many articles are related and would be included in the Catagory, and I deleted the ones that didn't. I'm going through the whole list of vassel houses now. About half of the house catagories are linked to the Vassel House Catagory and houses of a particular region Catagory and half aren't. I was adding the ones that weren't. I think it would probably make more sense that way. I'm probably not explaining that right.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 05:30, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I didn't catogize anyone under a name I'm just doing houses. Vassel House, House of the North, etc. what I was saying before was that instead of putting House Clegane (to use your example) into the Catagory of House Lannister, put it in the Catagory of House Clegane and then put that Catagory into the House Lannister. So when it's pressed you get all of the house articles together.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 05:36, January 4, 2013 (UTC)

My name is John and I'm an admin on Mistresses Wiki.

Anyway, let me know what you think about adding the category of the house rather than the house itself. This way the article page would take you to the category of that house, and then the houses category page would take you the category page of the house it owes alligence to. I did add one line to this, about Theon giving the gold pouch to Dagmer, and I corrected it to say that they were "orphans" and that Dagmer had gone back to kill him and his "wife". And those lines were correct. I'm being more careful with grammar.

As for Cersei, I went to change it, but you had already done so. Hello,

I was wondering if you were familiar with templates for references? I need help on another wiki I run. I am trying to set it up so that references will show at the bottom of the page, but having major issues. Thanks :) 03:02, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

This is Knakveey from Wikia's game team. I wanted to reach out to some of the active admins with a request in regards to the main page for the upcoming Telltale: GoT episode 2 that is due out soon. This is of course a request and you can decline to have any changes made, but you might find some of the suggestions helpful for the wiki.

In the books
+
- Would it be possible to have the latest fannotation trailers highlighted on the mainpage slider? I know it is currently under "featured media", but it would be great to have it in the slider too.

"The series is called A Song of Ice and Fire, not "Song of Ice and Fire... please correct your modifications".--Gonzalo84 (talk) 22:02, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
- What are your thoughts about adding a "Telltale" link under the "Episodes" tab in the nav bar? It would allow users to access articles in regards to the game more efficiently.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I've been changing incorrect instances of "The" to "A". Not once have I changed it to just "Song of Ice and Fire". Please be more careful in the future, as this is the second time you've accused me of something I haven't done--The Bastard of Bolton (talk) 22:12, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
- We thought it would be nice to add a right rail unit that highlights the most recent game episode/game character/crucial choice, etc. This would be a new unit on the page and it would be designed by our artists here. They would make something that is slick and will not deviate from the overall look of the wiki. This design will also be sent to you before proceeding so we can make sure it's something that you like and are happy with. Alternatively, what about using the existing "Featured Article" section to highlight the current episode?

: I know you're not making that mistake. If you understood that I'm sorry, I just wanted you to place the "A" inside the links. That's all. And thank you for improving my latest cleanup spree. Its greatly appreciated.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 22:15, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
If you prefer, I can also post this on the forum/small council and repeat what I have mentioned above.

: I have been adding the "A" within the links in every instance that I've edited so far. And you're welcome. Of, course, I understand that honest mistakes are made.--The Bastard of Bolton (talk) 22:23, January 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
Again, you do not need to do any of these things, but it is something we think can help improve traffic to the page and increase it's reputation for being a great database for all things Game of Thrones.

This is a work in progress; I only started writing it yesterday. I have not gotten to the point of proof-reading for commas yet. As for Brandon riding to his wedding, that is in the book, but I thought it was also in the Complete Guide to Westeros, which would make it canon. I will check. Yes, I have used the term "Crown Prince", but I will stop doing so. I am still making descisions about how much information about other characters to include. I will reread QueenBuffy's "Drogo and Daenerys" as a guide. Thank you for proofreading, I always appreciate constructive criticism.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 06:23, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

#For the main page slider I'd rather defer to my co-bureaucrats QueenBuffy and TheDragonDemands
  +
#I would keep the bar as it is, the Telltale game is supplementary to the show and this is a wiki about the show, not the game.
  +
#Likewise. Too much rails and links make the wiki visually cumbersome.

Thanks a lot! I'm new at the forum, and still don't know how it work...

Histories & Lore pagequotes
Italics
+
This has come up a few times: for historical characters, sometimes we have a great quote that "encapsulates the character" from the Histories & Lore videos, because they're more detailed. Conversely, we have times when they're at least mentioned in the main TV series, though only in passing.
Ok, I'll see how the other films were put in and do it the same way. Also, there needs to be a concensous for an apostrophe on a name ending in an "s". I put in an 's and had "s" taken out as unnecessary. Then when I removed one it was put back in. I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently even the Supreme Court can't decide if the "s" is needed after the apostrophe on a name ending in "s".Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 04:56, January 19, 2013 (UTC)

:Words ending in "s" DO NOT add another possessive apostrophe-S. Never. For example, "the daughter of Stannis" is written as "Stannis' daughter", NEVER "Stannis's daughter". There is no debate.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 05:07, January 19, 2013 (UTC)

What you want me to do
+
Major example: Maegor Targaryen is discussed in greater detail in the Histories and Lore videos, but the most prominent time he's mentioned in the TV series is when Sansa gives the answer to Mordane that the Red Keep was built by Maegor the Cruel, back in Season 1.

Sorry I left this message on my page, but I'm not sure you got it. Do you want me to go through the whole Mentioned Character category and remove them all from the "Image Needed" category only, or from both the "Image Needed" and "Quote Needed" categories. I will be happy to take out the ones I put in and the one others put in, as well. Please just tell me which ones.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 00:34, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
+
A principle I've been trying to use from my library school instruction is to remember that most of our "audience" doesn't know the material as well as we do. Even the "attentive TV-first viewers", TV viewers who do pay attention, don't always watch the Histories and Lore videos. So I think the best thing to do for "historical characters" is to start with "most prominent/good quote about them in the main series" at the top of the page....though we'd then work in the "better quote about them from the Histories and Lore" into another part of the article. That is...the opening quote is "this is where you may have heard of this person or thing mentioned in the main series", a "hook" to act as a starting point. Well, see what I mean on the Maegor Targaryen article.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 04:58, February 5, 2015 (UTC)

I used the quote because I don't like dialogues so much. As for Daeron. The quote was more about the book than Daeron himself.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 15:24, February 5, 2015 (UTC)

As the good folks here know, we have an existing Game of Thrones wikia that exists solely to document content for the Telltale game. After discussing it with the lead admin over there, a tentative agreement has been reached that would result in the merging of that site into this one. I am aware that a recent vote was cast here on how to include game information, but am also aware that the existing team here has been focused almost exclusively on the television series.
I had that quote for Armeca so I added it in when I put took her out of the quote needed category. I have other quotes, but I'll wait until I finish and go back and add those in. Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 02:49, January 21, 2013 (UTC)

I think I've taken all the only mentioned characters out. I still think that a house sigil would be better than nothing. That's how it's done on the Family Trees on the major character pages. It would make the Characters category pages look better.
+
Here is the proposal - please keep in mind this is not set in stone and is certainly up for debate, as consensus needs to be reached between the two sites before anything moves forward:

I checked for quotes, but didn't find many where a quote was put in, but the "Quote Needed" category hadn't been removed. I found a lot more characters that had spoken in the show, but didn't have quotes and weren't in the "Quote Needed" category. I didn't add them; I just made a list. I wasn't sure what the reaction would be if I started adding more people in than I was taking out. However, I'll be getting quotes for them or at least trying to in the next few days. Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 10:50, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
+
#The team over there wants to focus exclusively on the game when the sites are merged which, of course, frees the team here to focus on the television series.
  +
#It is preferable that the admin team over there be included in the leadership here; additionally, it would probably be nice to have the lead admin from over there be a bcrat here in order to have the "game team" represented.
  +
#There should be some indication on the main page and the navigation that articles on the game exist on the wikia
  +
#There are no plans to change the look or feel of the site here, at least in general; given that the team being merged already has a look in place for their pages, it might be best to take what they've done and tweak it so it fits with the theme of this site - this will potentially be something that would have to be sandboxed and then agreed upon, unless there's no issue (of course)

:"Quote needed" isn't so bad as "Image needed", as theoretically, any character mentioned or referred to in dialogue can have a quote attributed to them. Things like "Luthor Tyrell", however, which you added "Quote Needed" to, SHOULD NOT AND CANNOT have a quote, because they're only known of from family trees. "Quote Needed" can broadly be used for anything mentioned in actual, on-screen dialogue, even by other people.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:57, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
+
That pretty much sums things up. I would be doing the heavy lifting of import/export in order to keep all revision histories intact as much as possible. Smaller changes have to be carried over manually, as well as images and templates. The lead admin over there would likely assist with the latter. I would also be involved in every step of the merger from beginning to end and would be on-hand to answer any questions or solve any issues that might arise.

I did not put "Luthor Tyrell" in the "Quote Needed" category, I only put him in the "Image Needed" category, and then took him out. I still think there could be the image of the House Sigil as there is in the Family Trees. It would make the Characters category page look better. I went through every character and there were only a couple of things I found that I had done wrong, such as putting Mace Tyrell in the "Quote Needed" category. He was one of only two season 3 people that already had a quote. I did find several people who had been given quotes, but had not then been removed from the category, and I took them out. I did find a couple of others not in a category they should have been in like the Lord of Bones. I also removed the image and quote needed categories that other people had put in, for characters only written about in books. I removed everyone who was only mentioned that I had added to the "Quote Needed" and "Image Needed" categories, as I had been instructed to do. I never added anyone who was only written about in a book to the "Quote Needed" category. I found lots of characters who actually spoke during the show or were spoken about who did not have quotes. I didn't add in more people to "Quote Needed", because of all the fuss, but I made a list and will try to get the quotes. If I can't find them or can't make out what they are saying or just get tired, I'll add them into the category and let someone else take a shot at it. About the Aggo page, I did catch that Rakharo was spelled with an "h" and thought I had changed it, but apparently something happened as it didn't publish the correction. Thanks for catching that. Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 21:15, January 21, 2013 (UTC)
+
The obvious benefits of this include this team being able to focus solely on what their passion was in the first place, namely the television series. Another team completely related to their passion - the game - means the best of both worlds. Obviously there would be an increase in traffic here with the redirect alone; but then Telltale is planning a Fan Studio endeavor, which would bump traffic up even more (hopefully) and result in both teams of admins able to potentially benefit from any information from the gaming company... and who knows what else related to GoT they might reveal.

Thos charactes don't require sigil images on the infoboxes because they already have sigils by their names--Gonzalo84 ([[User

Valyria
+
Best regards,

We need to differentiate articles with "Valyria" in the title, however I think having a disambiguation page (as the default link) isn't really necessary. What I think we should do is have "Valyria" redirect automatically to "Valyrian Freehold", as this is what is usually meant. A link to a disambiguation page can go on the top of this. Meanwhile, I think we should retitle the article on the specific capital city to "Old Valyria", to keep the titles distinct (and not without justification, as they've called it that at times). Other things aren't so ambiguous; "Valyrian peninsula", "Valyrian steel", and "the Doom of Valyria" won't really be confused with the ancient empire, though I would put them in the disambiguation page as "Valyria related topics".--The Dragon Demands (talk) 01:55, January 22, 2013 (UTC)

I was trying to edit and it won't let me. It is just like when I first joined and it would only let me edit in monobook. I edited War of Five King's. There were a lot of mistakes and I corrected them. Now it won't even let me check the edit history. I was working now on changing the word Harrenhall to Harrenhal . There is one in the "in the book" section of Old Gods and the New, but it won't let me change it. Recently, in preparation for Season 5, they made a series of refresher-posts on the "Great Houses of Westeros" -- basically compiled by making a quick read-through of AWOIAF and GoTWiki articles. What I find most offensive is...if these people actually WATCHED the show, they wouldn't NEED to rip off wikis for such basic information. Well, "rip off", at least these aren't verbatim quotes. But they have minor errors which someone actually familiar with the content wouldn't make.

P.s. I had an idea that I told Dragon the other day. Can we get quotations for mentioned only in book sources characters out of A Complete Guide to Westeros? We do use it as canon for background information.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 13:15, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

It's letting me edit again in wikia. If I can't edit I need to upload that list of all the characters that spoke or were spoken about into the "Quote Needed" category so someone else can do itCh&#39;vyalthan (talk) 13:37, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

War of Five Kings
+
Check out the comments section (which seems to be combined for all of them). He actually mixed up that Arya *doesn't* help "liberate Harrenhal" in the TV version! Must have been reading AWOIAF's page. He then in the comments...tries to cover himself by saying that it was implied that Jaqen killed every single guard in Harrenhal, paving the way for Robb Stark's army to recapture it. Why would Jaqen kill Stark prisoners as well as Lannister guardsmen?!?!? -- they said pretty clearly that Gregor massacred what prisoners they had then withdrew.
Usually I never comment or question a revision by an admin, but my revision of War of Five King's was not a bad one. The word strength was misspelled twice in that article. It said that Stannis and Renly have "raise" their own armies instead of "raised". It didn't mention that Eddard had been named regent before being charged with treason. It said the Lannister forces "has" responded instead of "have". The name Greyjoy was misspelled. It said "on" the wake of Eddard's execution instead of "in" the wake. Your revision put all of these errors back into the article. These were actually things that were wrong that I corrected. He also claims that the "male preference inheritance laws" of Westeros mean that a younger brother inherits ahead of his older brother's daughter. No...that's how the Targaryen rules work. Even in REAL LIFE....he said that Edmure's heir would be "Catelyn's children by female preference, his uncle Brynden by male-preference"....No. That isn't what "male preference" means! Only the Targaryens did it that way, the royal succession laws.

Quotes
+
The funniest/saddest part is when he defends some of his wacky decisions with even worse justifications in the comments.
I was going to continue with finding quotations, but then I realized that I may not be here in a week, and I have to wrap up all of my loose ends, just in case. I have this list of people that quotes exist for who still need them, but as I can't do it, I'll have to add them to the "Quote Needed" category. They have been checked, but I will go through and double check to be sure that they speak or are spoken about and do not currently have posted quotes. In fact I'll probably recheck the whole thing just to be sure. I'll make a note to Dragon so he doesn't think I've gone "insane" again. I like to visit actors Wikipedia pages, and, when I find a fact that is new, I jot it on a list. I have two loose leaf pages of notes. I have to input this stuff if a time is coming when I can't, so I'll have to stop looking for quotes, for now at least. I think quotes would be a good idea on every page, not just characters, but castles, cities objects etc. If it is decided that we can use The Complete Guide to Westeros for quotes, it would give us quotes for lots of people, institutions, events, eras, etc. It would make the wiki look really polished. I will check in with you before starting anything major.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 16:54, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

Unnamed
Meanwhile....and I think this reflects much of their "casual viewer mentality"...they're just watching Game of Thrones as the "hot show of the moment" - they could just as easily have done Mad Men or The Walking Dead, but they're not even paying attention and only half-assing it because they're just paid to do it, not independent fansites.
This is nearly empty. If it is a valid category, I'll add to it, if not I'll empty it so it disappears.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 23:39, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

I've gone through the Characters category so often I'm seeing these people in my sleep. Hot pie and the Tickler are names, so I didn't include them in with the unnamed. I asked this once before, are the animals characters? The Three-eyed raven is in Characters, but the wolves aren't. The wolves have more right to be so, if they aren't, then the raven has to come out.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 01:35, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

Well, to get to the point: He refers to Joffrey as "Joffrey Lannister-Baratheon" and Tommen as "Tommen Lannister-Baratheon".

Quotations around episodes
+
Wow.
One of the things Dragon says I did consistently wrong was putting quotations around episodes. There are quotations around episodes throughout this wiki. In picture descriptions, in info boxes, in galleries, and even in references. I see them everywhere. I was going to start making the effort to remove them, but I'm not sure where to even start. Any advice?Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 06:23, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

P.s. I started doing searches on misspelled stuff and I've been able to find and remove a lot of weird stuff: Danerys, Barratheon, Mamoa, etc. Kit Harington's info box had the title "Kit Harrington".
+
In the comments, someone pointed out that they don't use double-surnames in Westeros like that. His explanation was that he felt casual viewers would get confused, so he wrote it that way to make it more explicit....yikes. How little attention does someone have to be paying attention to need that? Why cater to the mouth-breathers who say they love "Khaleesi" but have no idea who "Daenerys" is?

When I'm less tired, I need to go through all the minor characters next as there are several uncredited extras in there who I think should be in the background category instead. Which leads to another question. There are several uncredited extras who are described as reoccurring background characters. Are they background characters or reoccurring characters? Or are they both? Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 06:27, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

BY THAT LOGIC, why not call EVERY child of Eddard and Catelyn that? "Arya Tully-Stark"? "Robb Tully-Stark", etc.?

Progress
+
I am unconcerned, however, in terms of competition: the morons didn't even integrate these little character profiles into their site menu! The only way you would notice them is if you read the original news post! They even have character pages (like a paragraph each) but you wouldn't notice if they didn't link to it.
I think I've got the characters in the right categories, and I've burned through one page of my actor notes. Just to check before I do some thing, actors have a star category, but no categories for the others: minor characters and extras. I was going to make those. I have so much practice now that it shouldn't take that long. Also, I never got an answer on my question of the idea of getting quotes from The Complete Guide to Westeros. To clarify, I'm not going to do it, I was just asking if it was a possibility. I think it would be nice if every page started with a quote, as it really improves the appearance of the page. Have to go. iPad needs recharging. Still looking out for quotations around episodes, those really are everywhere. It will be a massive job to remove them all.Ch&#39;vyalthan (talk) 23:07, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

Again, I am unconcerned: they're paid to do this and they're already undermanned, and they don't know as much as many TV-first fans who just pay attention. We do this because we love it.

*First, yes, for future reference for other editors, I think the Complete Guide to Westeros is a good source of quotes, albeit, ones from the actual TV series are preferable - i.e. quotes about Ned Stark should be from the TV series, but if there is no other quote for "Valyria" etc., we'll use the Complete Guide as a second best. The idea being that not everyone bought the Blu Ray box or viewed the Complete Guide on youtube or whatever; we need to be geared towards casual viewers strictly watching only the 10 aired episodes. I didn't point this out sooner...because I don't want to encourage you to contribute to this wiki in any way whatsoever.
+
Michael Corleone: "I saw a strange thing today. Some Cuban rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of the command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight - the rebels aren't."
*Second, Gonzalo84 already told you to stop making hour by hour "progress reports" touting how much wonderful work you've done...and instead, you might try doing "actual work".

*Third, do you comprehend that there's a formal vote to have you banned from this wiki? What purpose is served by launching into a binge of work which you cannot possibly finish before next Tuesday when the final decision is made? Are you trying to finish all of this before next Tuesday, in the hopes that this will "sway our opinion" with your wonderful work? You're a walking disaster area and this wiki will only get back on track once you are removed.

*Fourth, as I said on your own talk page....THESE were your character notes? Things you read off IMDB and Wikipedia? ANYONE could have done that.

*Fifth, my heart leaps for joy inside whenever you announce that "my iPad needs recharging" because it means we get a few hours without the distraction of your editing. That, and you're still buffoonish enough to keep pleading "but I'm using an iPad!" as an excuse for either not loading images, or, stopping needed editing half-finished because you're out of charge. These are "explanations" but not "excuses" ...in much the same sense that "I am lazy" would technically be an "explanation" but not an "excuse". Seriously....do you think this wiki is about a TV series, and its thousands of viewers...or about you? WE DON'T CARE WHY YOU'RE TURNING IN BAD WORK, only that you are. Think objectively. Your personal reasons for being physically unable to contribute as well as any other user SHOULD NOT AFFECT US. There isn't some online anti-discrimination law against that....again, if someone came on here and said "I can only use a computer with a keyboard that has all the vowel-keys removed from the keyboard"...THAT WOULD NOT BE A LEGITIMATE EXCUSE. So why should we care if you have an iPad, or if you're banging two rocks together? All that matters is you're turning in bad work.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:30, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

I had to fix this. I had a stomach ache and couldn't sleep until I did it. I put in the categories you said, except I used "Supporting Role" instead of "Supporting Cast", because I already had a bunch of people in there. I don't plan on making any more categories, I'll just put people into existing ones, but I had to fix this. I found a photo on Aimee Richardson's IMD'b entry. It's of Myrcella and Tommen looking in horror at something during the Hand's Tournament (Ser Hugh or Clegane's horse probably). I dont think it's on the wiki yet. I did good work today. I corrected several wrong facts, one in Fire and Blood that Ser Ilyn was the one that held up Eddard's head, and I added the reference list to Wolf and the Lion. And even though I started out doing the Actor categories wrong, I did fix them, and they exist now. ==MediaWiki color scheme template==

There wouldn't be much point in waiting until Tuesday, except, that the other admins haven't commented yet. You already got The Bastard of Bolton's attention, but as for Admins, I've left notes for Werthead and QueenBuffy, they should get back to that in a day or two. (I also left a note for OPark77, but he's been on break from the wiki since November, so if the other three people weigh in but he hasn't, we probably shouldn't wait for him). But we at least need QueenBuffy and Werthead to weight in; this can't look like an "unfair" snap judgement done in a fit of pique. We can't have him running around saying we're unfair bullys. Rather, solemnly evaluating his record, he has to be formally rejected by this wiki's contributors.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:13, January 25, 2013 (UTC)

Okay, I finally got onto updating the color scheme of the nav templates, had to ask XD1 for help updating the new color scheme (instead of Blue and Grey (ugh), it's now Wood Brown and Beige - both blue links and black text will show up better against this).

:Indeed, that is the very reason why I didn't outright ban him.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 19:21, January 25, 2013 (UTC)

The Appearances/Credits templates needed to be updated by hand because unlike the others they use a grid, but that was easy enough.

:Were the decision mine (which it is not), I think that the "Eddard and Catelyn" article which Ch'Vyalthan has been working on for the past few weeks should be deleted out of hand; it would be easier to restart from scratch at a later date than put up with his nonsense. It would be a final proclamation that his work truly was useless. Moreover, he seems to be treating it as a parting shot to the wiki: "haha, you're banning me but I'm still determined to get that Eddard and Catelyn article uploaded" - working away at it for 22 hours straight even when he knows he's being banned. Destroy all Ch'Vyalthan touched.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:29, January 25, 2013 (UTC)

Only one that might still need updating is the House information Navbox - it uses three vertical columns so it's different from the others - managed to change the title bar to Wood Brown, but I couldn't get the background to Beige without making an ugly grid pattern, so I left it neutral.

::According to the Block Log, Ch'Vyalthan still has a ban with "with an expiry time of 1 year", and not permanent. At any rate, writing to inform that the next time we ever change the entire color scheme, the way to do it is by playing with the CSS code on this page: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikia.css

:::Ah, good then. It is officially a permanent ban. And if for some reason due to wiki mechanics only setting one year bans at maximum (I'm not sure on that), even if he comes back in a year we just automatically re-apply the ban.

Hey, can you change something on AWOIAF? I don't have an account there. I need you to remove Kovarro from the "characters only in the TV series" category. As explained in the "in the books" section on Kovarro, he's not so much "new" as "renamed"; apparently because they thought "Jhago" sounded too much like "Khal Jhaqo", they renamed it "Kovarro"...and then switched the names and descriptions of Rakharo and Jhago/Kovarro. Thus while the book Jhago is younger and skilled with a whip, and book Rakharo is slightly older and skilled with a sword, "TV-Rakharo" is younger and skilled with a whip, and "TV-Jhago" (Kovarro) is slightly older and skilled with a sword. He's not really a "new" character, anymore than "Yara Greyjoy" was.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:11, January 31, 2013 (UTC)

At the moment we have no confirmation that the Viewer's Guide map will be updated. Given that Dany has already reached the eastern-most-part of her journey (at Qarth, according to GRRM) and S3 will be spent in areas on the existing map, HBO may choose not to bother. In that case the TV show and books will simply have different maps, with Great Moraq and other places simply not existing in the TV show version of the world. Once S3 starts we should know for sure, and should hold fire on adding any Land of Ice and Fire locations until then (and then only what are shown on the TV show's map). --Werthead (talk) 12:59, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I am Daniel, I come from Merlin Wiki and as that show as ended I began watching Game of Thrones after my friends convinced him to and I could not have regretted it less! I have been hooked and now have to go through torture waiting for Season 3! ;) It is an amazing show, best TV show I've watched, it is so unique and original. This Wiki too is good but there is just one thing I must protest about, and that is the background for the form on the edit menu. I know I could easily edit this out in my personal CSS/JS, but it really is very difficult to read the text on top of it. Could you at least lighten it, or put a coating of colour or something over it? It doesn't even match the background, I can what it's getting at and the concept is nice, but it is an eyesore with the text on top!
+
Okay it took me nearly a year (I was graduating at the time this exploded in the news), but I'm done with my writeup for The Jaime/Cersei sex scene in "Breaker of Chains".

Also have you considered more customisation and JS featyres for your Wiki, such as custom skins for your buttons and toolbars, a "jump to top" button (this can all be found on the developer Wiki), an auto-refresh for your Wiki activity.. just to list a few. I hope to talk again!

Since you are the admin that's edited the template over the last couple years, I wanted to let you know about the edit I made. If you use Chrome, the one minor visual difference you'll notice is that the corners are rounded. The template's styling previously had <code>-moz-border-radius:10px;</code> which only appiles to Firefox. I removed the <code>-moz-</code> part so that it's now <code>border-radius:10px;</code> which applies to all browsers. If you don't want the rounded corners, simply remove <code>border-radius:10px;</code> from the end of the first line in edit mode.
:Wait, I see: yes the bottom half about "Sworn Houses" becomes redundant, but the stuff about family, heirs, and titles is still needed; we should keep the "Stark navbox" etc. while removing the redundant info.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 17:28, February 23, 2013 (UTC)

Dragon Demands has been promoted. We had a significant vandal attack yesterday, but fortunately I was online at the time and able to stop it in its tracks, so yes, this is going to be a problem. I don't really see any option other than to clean up and lock any articles that are targetted in particular. As for the background, I agree but it's going to be difficult to find a good way of using the new S3 artwork on the wiki. Some of the American newspapers are using a version where the shadow of the dragon falls across the text of their actual articles, but I'm not sure if that would work here, or if it would look too weird if it did (plus it would mean changing the colour scheme of the whole wiki).--Werthead (talk) 15:09, February 26, 2013 (UTC)

Or whatever her name is... she is actually credited as playing two separate roles in this season. A noblewoman coming up in a later episode, and the prostitute in Ep 1. 02:39, April 14, 2015 (UTC)
I like the backdrop, but it isn't meshing well with the wiki colour scheme. Ironically, the new colour scheme we've just adopted on the I&F Wikia actually might be a better match for this background. Otherwise perhaps increasing transparency, so the dragon shadow is more visible? At the moment it looks a bit odd.--Werthead (talk) 20:56, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

:Yes, I agree the image needs to be a tad bit smaller so that we can make out that the shadow is indeed a dragon. Also, the section headings are still red/gold...as well as the visual box is still showing the crown. I will message the Joe from Wikia about it. :) 22:01, February 27, 2013 (UTC)

:::Oh I'm not defending it, I personally banned him out of hand simply for choosing such an offensive name. Oh I see what you mean: the above "I understand your concern" bit was just about shooting Gonazalo84 a message on his Talk page, explaining why this is a grotesque username (instead of waiting around for chat): even though "cunt" is a word on the TV show, I'd still ban anyone who used it as part of their username (Ch'Vyalthan had the odd habit of not wanting to repeat curse words used in-dialogue, instead going out of his way to make awkward phrases to get around it; it was kind of labored).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:13, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

My point is that even if the writers say "well it technically might not be conceptualized as rape to them", simply showing Sansa as afraid of Ramsay (even if they never had sex as they do now) is drastically derailing the character.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:54, May 20, 2015 (UTC)

CestWhat is starting to argue against the very concept of comparing books to TV adaptations so I'm going to ask your opinions on this: I think my section on Robb/Talisa/Catelyn was a bit too acerbic and negative, though I don't have time to rewrite it now. Are there other things you feel need to be changed? I'm looking for a specific list of things which need to be fixed. CestWhat seems upset by the Osha/Asha/Yara stuff, though I've posted a link to a WiC news post which pretty much sums up the whole thing anyway. CestWhat opposes making the basic comment that "Asha is a more significant character than Osha so it's curious why they'd change Asha's name and not the wildling's name, but maybe they just didn't realize this at first because Asha wasn't in season 1". Hey Gonzalo :) I uploaded a better picture for Catelyn's profile because the one she has now is kinda hard to see, and a couple of months ago when I first watched GoT and before I read the books, I had a hard time recognizing the face because the picture was so low quality and dark. I was inspired by Wookiepedia to make a Race template, now that Season 3 is going to start introducing things. Non-human races are so rare that I felt it was better to make a "Race" template as a catch-all applied to different "races" as in "cultures" - i.e. both "Giants" and "Dornishmen" (and a "Type" entry on the box indicates if they are "Human" or "Non-Human"). Things like the Valyrians would be "Extinct" (are the old-style Rhoynar "extinct"?, strictly speaking)?

However I've run into problems with it on the "Giants" page; it keeps including the entire article in the infobox.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:45, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

We are working with sponsors and partners to place certain content on fan communities.

CestWhat
+
This content could be, for example, trailers or behind-the-scenes videos and would live in a prominent place on all of the pages of your community. The placement is temporary (~2-4 weeks) and is only done with admin consent. This is a great way to get content that is relevant and interesting to existing fans as well as drive new fans to your Wikia community!

CestWhat destroyed what little chance she had for coming back onto this wiki; rather than complain and ask for leniency, she proceeded to make a series of dummy accounts and continued to edit under them.
+
Here is an example of what it would look like. Its the image/banner above the slider.
...rather stupidly, she continued to work on things which only CestWhat was working on; character quote templates, family tree templates, etc. Oddly, she didn't just make one dummy account but multiple accounts depending on what task she was doing at the moment, i.e. "Quotabe characters" for quotes, or "PicsPics" for photos, etc. But the nail in the coffin was over on Wikia: I wrote her a warning on her Talk page there to go away and stop harassing us on other wikis. She used one of her dummy accounts, "PicsPics" to remove the message...apparently not realizing this tipped me off that they were one and the same.

Complaining for leniency was one thing, but making multiple dummy-accounts to circumvent a ban crosses the line: now there is no doubt it must be a permanent ban, beyond all hope of appeal, and any new account she makes will be deleted on sight.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:09, April 11, 2013 (UTC)

I did like the Stannis/Bolton "North" storyline, even condensed...until they turned the final battle into a farce, the definition of anti-climactic.

Sorry
+
Second...WTF that Dorne subplot? The idea was okay, sending Jaime was okay...I'm talking about severely limited screentime, badly written Sand Snakes, and badly filmed fight scenes - even badly filmed dialogue scenes.

Condensing two books into one season was madness. I'm actually usually forgiving and if this was not Benioff and Weiss's decision but forced on them due to the actor contract problems (which are now fixed)...I can forgive that. They didn't have control over that.

But as Linda said, they either 1- want to make 7 seasons so badly (because they want to leave to work on other projects?) that they knowingly compromised the material, or 2 - genuinely don't recognize that they compromised the material.

Re: Cleanup
I questioned whether to even keep watching the show.

Durrandon vs Durrendon
+
Then part of me realized that if this was the season where they combined two books into one, next season would only be about one "book" of material or so, so I might as well stick around.

Crud. Apparently, Elio "Ran" Garcia of Westeros.org confirmed that the name is actually "Durrendon" -- apparently centuries of linguistic/name drift turned the "House of Durran" into "House Durrendon" with an "e". http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Talk:House_Durrendon -- however, the talk page does not cite where Elio said this.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:35, April 26, 2013 (UTC)
+
These are serious problems and I now consider Season 5, while not without its moments, to be relatively below even Season 2 in overall quality.

Battle Infobox
+
The Dorne stuff was awful, and I think most objectively think so...largely just because it had so little time. Not even screentime, but I mean you can tell filming time: it takes time to set up camerawork for fight scenes, they didn't. It takes time to hone good dialogue for the Sand Snakes, they didn't. We know for a fact they only had one week to film in the Alcazar, and they couldn't have many extras or expansive fight scenes in it.

Hi! As you've noticed, whenever I edit a battle infobox the name of the battle disappears from the template. You corrected that on the War on Conquest page, but I just edited the Last Storm page and the same thing happened. How do I correct that? Thanks! Ravenclaw999 (talk) 19:32, April 27, 2013 (UTC)
+
Dorne I think can be...maybe...partially redeemed if they suddenly write it much better next season. What he saw so far, however, was clearly the least prioritized storyline, thrown it at the last minute. Time and resources better spent on already established characters.

Guest cast page
+
But Stannis...yikes. I'd even accept cutting out the Manderlys and Mormonts, the other Northern lords....but it made Stannis look pathetic, instead of a defiant 300 style charge against heavy odds...even if he lost as he did. It was the manner in which they filmed it - truly wrapped up in 2 minutes?

Regarding it's hasty deletion; Are you serious? It had legitimate information, and whilst I concede it wasn't as neat as other pages, it was a few short edits away from being fine. Can you explain your decision further?
+
Why even bring so much book 6 material into a show already so condensed?

:I agreed with the decision to delete it. We are overburdened and understaffed, barely keeping up with new information from Season 3. We don't need the distraction now of...needlessly creating a chart of Guest Cast appearances. I mean...to what purpose is that? It's like memorizing baseball statistics. We don't need accurate numerical lists of how many episodes each cast member appeared in; we need prose paragraphs in character biographies describing what they actually did in those articles. Otherwise it's just a glorified IMDB cast list. Theoretically, one might not even have watched the damned episode to create such a list, just looked at the credits.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 12:45, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
+
So I'm swaying back and forth; the day I saw it I thought it was irredeemable. Then the next day I said "we had bad problems in Season 2 also, but recovered". So many plotlines were condensed in "The North" (Boltons/Stannis, but also Sansa, even Brienne). This might not have been 20 episodes worth of material but it was more than 10.

My Wikia App
+
So I'm really shaken and look for your more experienced opinion. What did you think of these problems with "The North" and "Dorne" storylines? Is the show overall truly that badly damaged? Do we stick with it hoping new writers take over, a Frank Darabount situation?

I don't know what the heck to think anymore. Benioff and Weiss "have some 'splaining to do" about these drastic cuts to the North/Stannis...and really, what the heck was going on with Dorne? Even in the limited physical screentime they had it could have been filmed and written better (the same story beats, I mean better dialogue).
I don't know what you mean with the last message. What subtitles did I alter? I've read the books. Can you please explain so I can understand and not make the same mistake (if I made one?) --Mesmermann (talk) 18:03, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

I checked another 2 or 3 major character articles to make sure before editing but in any case all of the pages on here have 1 main quote at the top of the page before the character bio, so what is wrong? I made sure to change the episode link the quote in Edmure Tully's page too. Celtic-Oranje

Wow. Yet it seems everyone in the media is too excited about Jon Snow dying to notice these other major problems. I don't know.

Well I might as well finish my "to do" list which has been stacking up for over a year.--The Dragon Demands (talk)

Quick question: How would one use another name / appositive for a character (such as "Khaleesi" or "Red woman") and still have it link back to that character's page on the wiki?
+
:Truth be told the only thing I liked from the Dornish storyline is Tyene (fanservice and "bad pussy" notwithstanding). But I'm not being objective, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers is, physically speaking, "my type" of girl. Besides that I think the storyline was clumsy, forced, moronic. Nymeria was a useless caricature. Siddigh was wasted, Ellaria became a stereotype.

Back from Britain
+
:As for the Northern storyline, I think Benioff and Weiss never bothered to understand Stannis. To describe him as being driven by "ambition" shows that they little to no analysis over the text. Tywin was ambitious, Stannis was driven by a zealous obsession with duty. The sacrifice of Shireen was a move by the writers to avoid hatedom from killing him.

I'm back from my week-long trip to Britain. I hope things haven't gotten too out of hand. I barely managed to watch episodes 6 and 7 before I left, but not compose summaries for them; now I need to watch episode 8. I'll cleanup what I can. Amazing that new users come on here and yell about "why isn't the Jorah Mormont page properly categorized?!" when 1 - we don't have basic summaries written for some episodes or main character pages need to be updated, and 2 - anyone can add categories to a page, and it actually took longer to complain than to do it themselves. Well, I'm back, so it's time to start cracking heads. We have little time to prepare for episode 9, probably the biggest night this wiki will ever experience. I hope all of the locked pages will hold.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:54, May 30, 2013 (UTC)

:Truth be told the only thing I liked about this season was Arya, the High Sparrow plotline, and "Hardhome". I'm not gonna give up on the show because I'm kind of invested in it and its not like it has reached the level of suckiness of "Charmed" (which for seasons 5 and part of 6 I only watched because I enjoyed trashing the show at Television Without Pity). I do hope The Winds of Winter gets released before Season 6.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 04:41, June 18, 2015 (UTC)

I'll still be watching, but I'm upset now. Two books in a single season? If they had no choice I forgive, but did they voluntarily do that because they wanted to "skip the boring stuff"? Or because they wanted to "match the Red Wedding" for a season climax EVERY YEAR?

Hi. I was wondering if it might be an idea to put up some level of protection on the Season 4 page. I noticed a couple of days ago that someone had added a Stoneheart reference, which could very likely be added again with upcoming events. I am interested in seeing Benioff and Weiss "respond" to any of this...they haven't really given any post-Season 5 in retrospect interviews yet. I believe them when they say they're too busy to come to Sand Diego Comic Con, but still. Please point out if you see any with them responding to Season 5 criticisms (the Dorne one in particular doesn't really have any logical explanations other than just rushed production and sloppiness).

I'll stick around though; if all of the book fans leave in disgust, there will be no one to "keep score" anymore, i.e. point out "Stannis's characterization is nothing like that".

While book six will not affect Season 6 - filming will end before it comes out, even if it comes out by Christmas or January - it would be fun if the book came out in say, March of next year, very publicly, so even the TV readers would quickly buy it and only realized "wow, this season deviated massively from the novel". And hey, maybe I'm wrong and they needed to condense a lot of the Stannis stuff. That is unclear. But the Dorne stuff...wow.

Blog comment deletion
Ack, I've written on this before. There are three criticisms (Dorne, "the North", and crudely using sexual violence when they run out of ideas) but one of those - the North - has three subpoints, so it's really five:
I was wondering if you could delete a book-spoiler comment a anonymous user made on my blog "To those who wonder if Robb is really dead..."? In response to one of user Lily!'s comments he/she talks about Catelyn and the Brotherhood Without Banners. <font face="" color="#000000">DRAEVAN13</font> 13:19, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Roose's image
+
*1 - Dorne was just plain sloppy and rushed. Not the actual idea on paper of sending Jaime there, but pacing, camerawork, dialogue, all felt like a rough draft.
  +
*2 - Frequently using sexual assault as a cheap dramatic stunt. No, this is not "being true to the narrative". Just because Gregor Clegane's men rape peasant women a lot doesn't mean you make a 15 minute montage of it. The Sansa thing is a problem unto itself (not the actual assault but diminishing her character arc); but in that case, why have Gilly nearly raped? Just for cheap drama? Or having Meryn beating girls with a stick? (yes he needs to be a pedophile like Raff so Arya can get close enough to kill, but why a stick?)
  +
*3 - "The North" in Season 5
  +
**3A - Very controversial to condense Sansa Stark with Jeyne Poole. Excluding the sex assault aspect....how does this affect her character arc? It sends it in reverse. They spent so much buildup on "Dark Sansa"...why? If they knew this would have no payoff because they've been planning to condense them since Season 2? This point at least has some counterarguments (the Vale is very separate from the other plots, etc.)...but...combined with the other sex assault problems from Point 2, it turns into a bad pattern. At least they filmed it well and clearly devoted a lot of attention to trying to make it work as best as possible.
  +
**3B - Stannis and the Battle of Winterfell were anticlimactic. Why spend so much time building him up as the best military tactician in Westeros only to almost laughably have his army one-sided defeated off-screen? My hope is that this was a fakeout, and that Roose's absence indicates that Ramsay rushed into a needless battle and ended up losing a third of his men or something in a phyrric victory (which combined with indirectly causing Sansa's escape, and news that the Vale is invading and they needed those men, will make Roose so angry at Ramsay that it will make Ramsay kill Roose before he can disinherit him). Even moving up how Shireen dies (maybe there wasn't enough time next season), and cutting out all other Northern lords.....why treat specifically the Battle of Winterfell as so anticlimactic? To play up "the tragedy of Stannis's needless sacrifice of Shireen"? That still doesn't justify it; rather, they shouldn't have sacrificed Shireen in that case. They should have realized that whatever they were going for emotionally, instead it came off as farcical.
  +
**3C - Jon Snow's death. His whole storyline was good until specifically the point it intersected or should have intersected with "the North", when Ramsay Bolton sends his threatening letter. Did rewrites affect this or something? They leave Hardhome by ship in episode 8.....where is the fleet in episode 9? Why in episode 9 are they suddenly back at Castle Black, in the middle of the continent far from the coast, yet Thorne lets them in? Then...why does Thorne suddenly take part in stabbing him in the very next episode? If he wanted him dead, why let them through in the first place? This isn't even like Dorne, a low-prioritized storyline....they seem outright proud of this as THE "Red Wedding" or "Tyrion kills Tywin" cliffhanger ending of the season. Yet how little thought was put into the motivation of the men who stab him? Now this can be fixed, if they were just going for shock so they gave no details, but in the very next episode Thorne explains "we decided to kill him after Melisandre said Stannis was defeated, because it means the Boltons will eventually come for Jon, and he lost his big supporter Stannis." Not a great reason, but at least some internal logic. Yikes.

His main image/slider pic is now changed Ser Gonzalo! :) 03:13, June 4, 2013 (UTC)

So basically those five things. The Dorne one is the most insulting though, because it isn't even a matter of condensation: just sloppy work in general.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:49, July 8, 2015 (UTC)

Image policy
You were given reasons in the edit summaries. Stop putting in new images just because they are the most recent. We're going for "most iconic" for the current season as a whole. No, we don't need one zoomed-in on her face, that's too close. An image should show some of a character's costume as well. The last version you wanted to add was too dark, from a night scene, and was such a closely cropped headshot that we couldn't see her costume well.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:43, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

I got your message about the misapplied image usage. So what would be the correct way to go about it?

:I added recent images because that's what's standard. I haven't seen any rules on this wiki that says otherwise, which is why I didn't understand why you reverted my edits. I've seen screencaps used as infobox photos that are not iconic at all, and are zoomed in on their faces as well. I think you've got me confused with someone else. What night scene? The latest photo I tried to add was a light photo from 3x09, and was not at all closely cropped. I'll stop updating infobox photos from now on, as I'm afraid I'll do something wrong again. I see. Though it says nothing about that in the guidelines (at least not that I noticed). Also, it is not an obvious indication of a character being dead at all, especially since this wiki is aimed at the viewers of the show and not the readers of the books. But I'll keep this detail in mind if I happen to come across other stuff in articles that (to me) looks like an editing blunder.--Abonbon 14:57, June 8, 2013 (UTC)

I like to make a cleanup for the interlanguage links and run a bot about them because we have 10 Game of Thrones Wikias and it feels like a patchwork rug because there are some interlanguage links but also sometimes not. I checked all GoT Wikias where the interlanguages Links are missing but I see that on some pages here these are blocked so only admins can edit there and my two questions would be:

As a VSTF I have the administraton-rights, but I don't want to "break" the rules because my powers should be there only in case of spam and vandalism on Wikias.

I'm trying to update the family trees, and I've loosely figured out how (after screwing around with some, or reverse-engineering them from other similar but pre-existing trees). The reason I was encouraged to do this is when I tried to explain to a friend who the Martells were, and I said "you know, Myrcella got engaged to their youngest son" but she didn't remember that had happened back in early season 2.

The TV show hasn't introduced as many families and extended members, so that helps. In which case, family trees which need updating include:
+
Well, yeah, if the other Bureaucrats are okay with it.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:04, July 3, 2015 (UTC)

*House Lannister - I added Trystane Martell, linking him to Myrcella with the dashed line we use for betrothal/romantic links. I'm also adding Margaery Tyrell next to Joffrey. I need to find pictures for Myrcella and Tommen, probably from "What is Dead May Never Die".
+
I'm ok with it as well.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 07:32, July 4, 2015 (UTC)
**Joanna and Steffon Lannister - these are established characters in the TV show even if their father is not yet; however I don't want the main Lannister tree to get cluttered (it is already very full) - so I think we should do what AWOIAF does, which is make a separate template which only appears on Joanna and Steffon's pages.

*I want to add Ygritte to the House Stark template with a dotted romantic link to Jon, on the grounds that 1 - it is a major relationship in the show, and 2 - while not stated in the TV show, according to wildling custom, Jon is technically married to Ygritte.

*House Tyrell - Bryan Cogman has officially established that Margaery is actually older than Loras in the TV version, due to the actress' age, though fundamentally in such a patriarchal society this doesn't affect things that much (either way Margaery is behind any brothers in line of succession). So I'm simply going to flip the order of Margaery and Loras.

*House Karstark - slightly more complicated in that I think the TV show renamed one son who was "Eddard" in the books so viewers wouldn't get confused; not sure if youngest brother appeared yet. Either way, good to get started on that.

*House Baratheon - has become badly cluttered, one of the more challenging ones to fix up. I was always opposed to adding three separate entries for Stannis' stillborn sons when a single box would have sufficed. But more importantly, the manner of handling Robert's bastard children isn't working - it needlessly forces Cersei's children down a full row, so only Robert's bastards appear on the second row. It's a drastic waste of space.

*House Frey - wow...where to even start? The difficulty is compounded by the fact that not all of the Freys have been established within the TV series. I'll put this last on the list as it will be very difficult.

*I think I'm going to throw together a small family tree for Hodor and Old Nan if I have the time.

*How should we handle a family tree for House Florent? They're a large family but not all members have been established, but even in a simplified version we weren't provided with the names of Selyse' parents in TV continuity. We'd really only need to show that Alester and Ryam and Rylene are siblings, that Melessa is daughter of Alester, while Selyse and Imry are children of Ryam. I'll mock up a simplified TV version to test this out.

*I think we should just avoid making a placeholder House Martell tree given that so few members have been identified in the TV series so far, and because in just a few weeks we'll get casting information which will confirm them.

Given how much space it took up relative to its usefulness, I've removed Mhaegen and Barra from the Baratheon family tree; it introduced an entire second tier and just made more problems than it was worth; my solution will be to make a separate family tree for "Robert Baratheon's bastards", much as there are sub-trees for House Lannister. This doesn't outright "remove" Mhaegen and Barra, actually, as they are included under the umbrella terms "various women" and "various bastards"--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:34, June 15, 2013 (UTC)

Among these he added some "Kingdom" pages we didn't used to have. So now we have both "Kingdom of the North" and "King in the North". We did have a "Kingdom of the Stormlands" page I made a while ago.

Why did you deleted the Desmond Crakehall?
+
How are we going to handle that? Should we have two? More likely the "title" Storm King would be kept short while "Kingdom of the Stormlands" would be longer. Or, we could remove the kingdom page and just have "The Stormlands" (the subdivision of the Seven Kingdoms) and "Storm Kings". Up until now we've been treating "Dorne" as a geographical region synonymous with "Principality of Dorne". I made "Kingdom of the Stormlands" separate because the Durrandon super-kingdom ruled half of Westeros and wasn't really synonymous with their core territories anymore. I'm not sure.

The only other discouragement I have is to systematically delete anything she's touched, even productive things, to discourage her from coming back here. We can't keep letting this problem fester, we need professional help from Wikia to get a wide-range IP address block.

Simply put: Most current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and indeed any device that doesn’t use desktop-style displays. On desktops and laptops, they often look amazing. The problem is that Wikia’s traffic is trending mobile.

I was wondering.. If Daario and Selmy both have the Targaryen sigil on their boxes, should we add one on Jora's too? KIWIBOλ (talk) 14:04, June 20, 2013 (UTC)

We’ve enabled two new features on your community. One is a tool for migrating the “old” infobox code to the new markup. It identifies templates on your wikia that look like infobox templates and places a box on the right rail of the template page. When you click the “Generate draft markup” button in this box, it opens a new tab containing a draft of your infobox using the new markup.
  +
  +
The second is a new feature on Special:Insights that will highlight which infoboxes on your wikia have not been migrated to the new infobox markup. It’s fairly intuitive - you can click on the infobox title link itself to see the old markup, or simply click the “Convert!” button on the right, which performs the same action as the “Generate draft markup” button.

Fan StudioEdit

Hi Gonzalo84,

I tried emailing you the other week in regards to an exclusive opportunity; hopefully, it’ll be of interest! In conjunction with Telltale Games, Wikia will be working to create a unique experience for visitors of our Game of Thrones community, specifically the pages centered on the episodic Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game. I wanted to see if you'd be interested in joining us.

Interested? If so, the first step is to join us in the Wikia Fan Studio -- the virtual environment where our project will take place. You should’ve already received an invitation to register; if you haven’t, please do let me know and one will be sent promptly. Even if you aren't interested in this particular project, registering with the Fan Studio will allow us to match you with other upcoming projects that could be a great fit! Remember, you’re never under any obligation to participate in a project, and the info you provide is kept in accordance with our privacy policy. And please do refer any other Wikia community members you think might be a fit for this program by passing along a link to their user page. We value your opinion and want to insure the best candidates are invited into this project.

Let me know if you are interested or have any questions,

Knakveey (talk) 00:36, January 16, 2015 (UTC)

Affiliates Edit

Hi :) My name is John and I'm an admin on Mistresses Wiki.

I just started watching the show and upon visiting the wikia I saw the affiliates list. I was wondering if you'd be interesting in affiliating my wikia ? :) --Zooomi 21:30, January 27, 2015 (UTC)

Episode 2 Mainpage ChangesEdit

Hello,

This is Knakveey from Wikia's game team. I wanted to reach out to some of the active admins with a request in regards to the main page for the upcoming Telltale: GoT episode 2 that is due out soon. This is of course a request and you can decline to have any changes made, but you might find some of the suggestions helpful for the wiki.

- Would it be possible to have the latest fannotation trailers highlighted on the mainpage slider? I know it is currently under "featured media", but it would be great to have it in the slider too.

- What are your thoughts about adding a "Telltale" link under the "Episodes" tab in the nav bar? It would allow users to access articles in regards to the game more efficiently.

If you prefer, I can also post this on the forum/small council and repeat what I have mentioned above.

Again, you do not need to do any of these things, but it is something we think can help improve traffic to the page and increase it's reputation for being a great database for all things Game of Thrones.

Thanks for your time,

Knakveey (talk) 22:35, February 2, 2015 (UTC)

  1. For the main page slider I'd rather defer to my co-bureaucrats QueenBuffy and TheDragonDemands
  2. I would keep the bar as it is, the Telltale game is supplementary to the show and this is a wiki about the show, not the game.
  3. Likewise. Too much rails and links make the wiki visually cumbersome.

Histories & Lore pagequotesEdit

This has come up a few times: for historical characters, sometimes we have a great quote that "encapsulates the character" from the Histories & Lore videos, because they're more detailed. Conversely, we have times when they're at least mentioned in the main TV series, though only in passing.

Major example: Maegor Targaryen is discussed in greater detail in the Histories and Lore videos, but the most prominent time he's mentioned in the TV series is when Sansa gives the answer to Mordane that the Red Keep was built by Maegor the Cruel, back in Season 1.

Site merge Edit

Hi, Gonzalo84!

Here is the proposal - please keep in mind this is not set in stone and is certainly up for debate, as consensus needs to be reached between the two sites before anything moves forward:

  1. The team over there wants to focus exclusively on the game when the sites are merged which, of course, frees the team here to focus on the television series.
  2. It is preferable that the admin team over there be included in the leadership here; additionally, it would probably be nice to have the lead admin from over there be a bcrat here in order to have the "game team" represented.
  3. There should be some indication on the main page and the navigation that articles on the game exist on the wikia
  4. There are no plans to change the look or feel of the site here, at least in general; given that the team being merged already has a look in place for their pages, it might be best to take what they've done and tweak it so it fits with the theme of this site - this will potentially be something that would have to be sandboxed and then agreed upon, unless there's no issue (of course)

Please let me know what you think at your earliest convenience!

Best regards,

Raylan13@Wikia (talk) 04:28, February 18, 2015 (UTC)

WiC.netEdit

We're going to have to keep an eye out if Fansided's WiC.net plagiarizes us again in Season 5, as their quota-numbers rise and they run out of ideas.

I've already seen them outright linking to Game of Thrones Wiki....and rerunning WatchersOnTheWall.com news reports!...when it's a slow news day.

Some of the things this Rowan guy did are just bizarre:

http://winteriscoming.net/2015/02/19/great-houses-of-game-of-thrones/3/

Check out the comments section (which seems to be combined for all of them). He actually mixed up that Arya *doesn't* help "liberate Harrenhal" in the TV version! Must have been reading AWOIAF's page. He then in the comments...tries to cover himself by saying that it was implied that Jaqen killed every single guard in Harrenhal, paving the way for Robb Stark's army to recapture it. Why would Jaqen kill Stark prisoners as well as Lannister guardsmen?!?!? -- they said pretty clearly that Gregor massacred what prisoners they had then withdrew.

The funniest/saddest part is when he defends some of his wacky decisions with even worse justifications in the comments.

Well, to get to the point: He refers to Joffrey as "Joffrey Lannister-Baratheon" and Tommen as "Tommen Lannister-Baratheon".

Wow.

BY THAT LOGIC, why not call EVERY child of Eddard and Catelyn that? "Arya Tully-Stark"? "Robb Tully-Stark", etc.?

I am unconcerned, however, in terms of competition: the morons didn't even integrate these little character profiles into their site menu! The only way you would notice them is if you read the original news post! They even have character pages (like a paragraph each) but you wouldn't notice if they didn't link to it.

Again, I am unconcerned: they're paid to do this and they're already undermanned, and they don't know as much as many TV-first fans who just pay attention. We do this because we love it.

Michael Corleone: "I saw a strange thing today. Some Cuban rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of the command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight - the rebels aren't."

Hyman Roth: "What does that tell you?"

Michael Corleone: "They could win."

MediaWiki color scheme templateEdit

Okay, I finally got onto updating the color scheme of the nav templates, had to ask XD1 for help updating the new color scheme (instead of Blue and Grey (ugh), it's now Wood Brown and Beige - both blue links and black text will show up better against this).

The Appearances/Credits templates needed to be updated by hand because unlike the others they use a grid, but that was easy enough.

Only one that might still need updating is the House information Navbox - it uses three vertical columns so it's different from the others - managed to change the title bar to Wood Brown, but I couldn't get the background to Beige without making an ugly grid pattern, so I left it neutral.

At any rate, writing to inform that the next time we ever change the entire color scheme, the way to do it is by playing with the CSS code on this page: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Wikia.css

If we remember this, next time we won't go a couple of weeks with the old color scheme in the templates because we don't know how to change it :) --The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:57, March 12, 2015 (UTC)

Also attempted to update the Wars/Battles/Massacres/Events infobox - template page says it has changed but it isn't showing up yet on actual pages - may take a few minutes to kick in.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:12, March 12, 2015 (UTC)

UPDATE: I fixed the color scheme on the templates for Massacres, Events, Battles, and Wars.

One exception: I don't know why, but the title "War of the Five Kings" is not displaying on that article. the "Name=" tag does work in other war articles such as "Dance of the Dragons", I have no idea why it isn't displaying properly. --The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:26, March 12, 2015 (UTC)

Character infobox recoded to be mobile-friendly Edit

Hi Gonzalo. I'm Joe from Wikia. :)

We noticed that Template:Character was broken on the mobile skin, so I just recoded the template to look exactly the same for the desktop skin, while now being mobile-friendly.

Here is a before and after screenshot of the infobox from Varys: before, after.

Since you are the admin that's edited the template over the last couple years, I wanted to let you know about the edit I made. If you use Chrome, the one minor visual difference you'll notice is that the corners are rounded. The template's styling previously had -moz-border-radius:10px; which only appiles to Firefox. I removed the -moz- part so that it's now border-radius:10px; which applies to all browsers. If you don't want the rounded corners, simply remove border-radius:10px; from the end of the first line in edit mode.

Let me know if you have any questions, and keep up the great work! JoePlay WikiaStaff2.png (talk) 19:31, April 13, 2015 (UTC)

I need you to review "Version 2.0" of my writeup of this, sooner instead of later, I don't want to put it off until the end of Season 5, but to make it our "official position" and interlink with episode and character articles as soon as the other bureaucrats give it the go-ahead. Sansa sceneEdit

Cat Stark picture Edit

Hey Gonzalo :) I uploaded a better picture for Catelyn's profile because the one she has now is kinda hard to see, and a couple of months ago when I first watched GoT and before I read the books, I had a hard time recognizing the face because the picture was so low quality and dark. Change it if you want, if you don't it's ok, I just think it looks better with this one :D

Promotion and Giveaway OpportunitiesEdit

Hi Gonzalo,

I spoke with The Dragon Demands earlier this week, but he suggested I also ask for your opinion.

We are going to do a game code giveaway next week for the Telltale: Game of Thrones series. TDD said it would be cool if we switched from the 4th hub slider to the 1st for the duration of the giveaway ~6/19 and update the community message one time. Cool?

Another thing has come down the pipeline that MAY or MAY NOT actually happen, but I wanted to see if you'd be interested:

We are working with sponsors and partners to place certain content on fan communities.

Here is an example of what it would look like. Its the image/banner above the slider.

Again, this isn't something we're going to do for sure, just want to know if you'd be interested.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to me,

Knakveey (talk) 21:26, June 12, 2015 (UTC)

I agree with the first but not the second. I think its enough with the "must see videos" we have.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 02:49, June 13, 2015 (UTC)

Lock pages?Edit

Could you lock the Myrcella Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon, and Jon Snow pages? There's an edit war going on over whether they're dead or not that's dragging on. DRAEVAN13 12:08, June 16, 2015 (UTC)

Season 5Edit

You've been on here longer than me and been active on AWOIAF longer than I have. You recommended me for Adminship. You are senior here and I look to you for guidance now:

What are your thoughts on Season 5, specifically the final episode?

I saw Elio and Linda's video review and felt deeply upset.

I did like the Stannis/Bolton "North" storyline, even condensed...until they turned the final battle into a farce, the definition of anti-climactic.

I questioned whether to even keep watching the show.

Then part of me realized that if this was the season where they combined two books into one, next season would only be about one "book" of material or so, so I might as well stick around.

These are serious problems and I now consider Season 5, while not without its moments, to be relatively below even Season 2 in overall quality.

Dorne I think can be...maybe...partially redeemed if they suddenly write it much better next season. What he saw so far, however, was clearly the least prioritized storyline, thrown it at the last minute. Time and resources better spent on already established characters.

Why even bring so much book 6 material into a show already so condensed?

So I'm swaying back and forth; the day I saw it I thought it was irredeemable. Then the next day I said "we had bad problems in Season 2 also, but recovered". So many plotlines were condensed in "The North" (Boltons/Stannis, but also Sansa, even Brienne). This might not have been 20 episodes worth of material but it was more than 10.

Wow. Yet it seems everyone in the media is too excited about Jon Snow dying to notice these other major problems. I don't know.

Well I might as well finish my "to do" list which has been stacking up for over a year.--The Dragon Demands (talk)

Truth be told the only thing I liked from the Dornish storyline is Tyene (fanservice and "bad pussy" notwithstanding). But I'm not being objective, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers is, physically speaking, "my type" of girl. Besides that I think the storyline was clumsy, forced, moronic. Nymeria was a useless caricature. Siddigh was wasted, Ellaria became a stereotype.
As for the Northern storyline, I think Benioff and Weiss never bothered to understand Stannis. To describe him as being driven by "ambition" shows that they little to no analysis over the text. Tywin was ambitious, Stannis was driven by a zealous obsession with duty. The sacrifice of Shireen was a move by the writers to avoid hatedom from killing him.
Truth be told the only thing I liked about this season was Arya, the High Sparrow plotline, and "Hardhome".

Ack, I wrote this pleading when I was still wallowing in depression the week after the finale aired.

I'll still be watching, but I'm upset now. Two books in a single season? If they had no choice I forgive, but did they voluntarily do that because they wanted to "skip the boring stuff"? Or because they wanted to "match the Red Wedding" for a season climax EVERY YEAR?

If nothing else we should start viewing this as a "franchise" and hold out for different writers in the Tales of Dunk and Egg prequel.

Ack, I've written on this before. There are three criticisms (Dorne, "the North", and crudely using sexual violence when they run out of ideas) but one of those - the North - has three subpoints, so it's really five:

  • 1 - Dorne was just plain sloppy and rushed. Not the actual idea on paper of sending Jaime there, but pacing, camerawork, dialogue, all felt like a rough draft.
  • 2 - Frequently using sexual assault as a cheap dramatic stunt.
  • 3 - "The North" in Season 5
    • 3A - Very controversial to condense Sansa Stark with Jeyne Poole.
    • 3B - Stannis and the Battle of Winterfell were anticlimactic.
    • 3C - Jon Snow's death. Yikes.

So basically those five things. The Dorne one is the most insulting though, because it isn't even a matter of condensation: just sloppy work in general.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:49, July 8, 2015 (UTC)

War of the Five Kings RE: Wildlings Edit

Why did you remove that section?  Given that there were efforts to bring them into the conflict, I think they warrant inclusion.  TheUnknown285 (talk) 21:41, June 23, 2015 (UTC)

They don't warrant inclusion...yet. Who knows what's happening in Season 6. Yes they connect eventually but....that entire page needs a major overall but it will be a while before I get to it; major task and I have others to get to first.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:24, June 23, 2015 (UTC)

I got your message about the misapplied image usage. So what would be the correct way to go about it?

Interlanguage Links 2.0 Edit

Hi there!

Never got an answer from him so I like to contact you in case he was busy.

1) If you can add on the mainpage of the GoT Wikia those links on the bottom of the page so that the mainpages of the GoT Wikias are linked:

de: ru: it: uk: pt-br: zh: es: pl:

2) If you can, when the bot is running, deblock the admins-only pages just for a couple of hours so that the bot can create the links? If that's too difficult or you don't have the time can I have the permission of working on the admin-only pages? As a VSTF I have the administraton-rights, but I don't want to "break" the rules because my powers should be there only in case of spam and vandalism on Wikias.

I would like to have some feedback from your side. Cyanide3 21:52, July 3, 2015 (UTC)

Well, yeah, if the other Bureaucrats are okay with it.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:04, July 3, 2015 (UTC)

I'm ok with it as well.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 07:32, July 4, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you verry much! If you all agree maybe you can give this bot Weas-El-Bot the Bot rights. He's the one who will running through the Game of Thrones Wikias to link all the pages with the other Wikias. Cyanide3 10:05, July 4, 2015 (UTC)

Kingdoms and KingsEdit

User:Simpsonsfan1992 burned through here around the finale adding a lot of stuff I'm fixing now.

Among these he added some "Kingdom" pages we didn't used to have. So now we have both "Kingdom of the North" and "King in the North". We did have a "Kingdom of the Stormlands" page I made a while ago.

Please check on this, his edits were extensive.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:01, July 8, 2015 (UTC)

I think we should keep separate articles for:
  • The titles (re: Storm King, King in the North/King of Winter, River Kings, King of the Isles and the Riverlands, and so on)
  • The Kingdoms as political entities (the Kingdom of the North, for example, expanded from Winterfell until it encompassed the entire region we know as "the North")
  • The regions

Having said that, I think Dorne should be kept as a single article for the simple reason that there is no mention of a "Principality of Dorne", just "Dorne"--Gonzalo84 (talk) 06:21, July 9, 2015 (UTC)

Hi! Im pretty new of this great wiki got page!

Some of them are confirmed by their return here ( wintersicoming.net actors in belfast)

But I didnt succeed in putting any links..

Portable Infoboxes Edit

We’re reaching out to a few of the admins our top communities, hoping to get you on board with the migration to the new infobox markup. And we have tools to help!

Why we’re doing this

Simply put: Most current infobox structure translates very poorly to mobile experiences, and indeed any device that doesn’t use desktop-style displays. On desktops and laptops, they often look amazing. The problem is that Wikia’s traffic is trending mobile.

There is an important graph from our forum post about infoboxes a couple weeks back, and I want to share it here as well:

Wikia_mobile_traffic_growth.jpg

Mobile is the future. Not just for Wikia, but for the web as a whole. Take a look at the recent trends and future growth predictions for mobile traffic - it's staggering.

We partnered with the Wikia community to create this new markup to make sure that your hard work can be displayed on mobile devices (as well as any future technologies) easily and without any new coding conventions. It’ll take some effort up front, to be sure, but we’re here to help, and the work you put in now will pay for itself tenfold in the future.

Tools we’ve designed to ease the process

We’ve enabled two new features on your community. One is a tool for migrating the “old” infobox code to the new markup. It identifies templates on your wikia that look like infobox templates and places a box on the right rail of the template page. When you click the “Generate draft markup” button in this box, it opens a new tab containing a draft of your infobox using the new markup.

This is our help page for the new markup. I’ll help get things rolling by converting a template or two as an example if you’d like me to, as well as watching this post for any questions. Pineapple_u86.gifThe PK(WallGuestbook) Mudkip.png @Wikia 23:05, July 22, 2015 (UTC)

Arya pageEdit

Hey we're not sure what to use as a pagequote for Arya Stark.

Also I think her infobox image should be that cool Braavosi costume she had, instead of the rather banal Faceless Men acolyte robes.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:31, July 26, 2015 (UTC)

I think her "I am Arya Stark and you are noone" quote is the best quote now, the death list prayer has run its course. As for her image, I agree with the "Cat of the Canals/Lanna" outfit.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 18:35, July 26, 2015 (UTC

Gender and SexualityEdit

I'm not quite done yet, but the page is very long. Please start reviewing over the Gender and Sexuality page I've been tinkering with (including the sub-page I made on "Rape"); if you don't want any parts to stay up it won't (I don't want random people who barely contribute to the wiki judging the merit of what I wrote - but I defer to your judgement).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:05, August 19, 2015 (UTC)

Jaime/CerseiEdit

You already moved this page so I think you've read it, but please confirm via the talk page if you as a Bureaucrat support this as the "official position" etc, I should have asked you sooner: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Breaker_of_Chains/Jaime-Cersei_sex_scene --The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:03, August 25, 2015 (UTC)
