Umber bannerEdit

Did you upload a new file?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 16:26, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

Just a tighter, squared crop of the same image. It translates better in templates, such as the infobox, family trees, and userbox.--The-Boy 16:34, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

Must Watch videosEdit

This has gone too far. Now the videos have nothing to do with GoT. And they show up above the "Read also" feature.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 16:28, March 25, 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. We need to take action now, before this goes any further. I also want to find out if they are planning another "Create your own House" style contest like the one they forced on us last year. I'm not sure how you felt about it... personally I thought it was a fiasco, and another one should be avoided like the plague!--The-Boy 16:34, March 25, 2014 (UTC)
The "Create your own House" contest sucked. If they want something like that it should be limited to personal blogs.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 17:45, March 25, 2014 (UTC)
I'm going to contact them to find out what their plans are regarding this.--The-Boy 19:19, March 25, 2014 (UTC)
I was pretty angry about that contest at the time, now I'm sort of ambivalent - they might as well have contests like that. People signed up for it that weren't regular contributors, though I guess their hope was that people would sign up for the contest and then stick around. Well, who doesn't like Heraldry?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:29, March 25, 2014 (UTC)
True, the intentions behind the contests are good; it's just the execution that leaves something to be desired...--The-Boy 11:42, March 27, 2014 (UTC)

Did you get any answer about those damn "Must Watch" videos?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 23:51, March 29, 2014 (UTC)

Nope, and they're cropping up again on category pages. I've also reached out to the guys on the Fallout Wiki about Google Chrome, but they haven't replied yet.--09:52, March 30, 2014 (UTC)

YoutubeEdit

The Wikia and Youtube people will yell at us if we directly link to Histories & Lore featurettes that are technically illegally uploaded. If nothing else, linking to them on your home page will increase the chances that official copyright people will notice that they've been loaded onto youtube, then force them to be removed, after which everyone can't enjoy them anymore. They're an open secret...but that only goes so far. I don't think you should risk it.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:57, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

I hadn't considered that. Thanks for the heads up.--The-Boy 01:35, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

Mormont UserboxEdit

Hey, who asked for a Mormont userbox? (always interesting when people pic a specific House to support).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:29, March 28, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, no one (sorry to disappoint). Ideally I'd like us to have userboxes for all the houses, great and small, and ones for all other orders, religions etc. We could have them all documented in a community page and link it into the welcome message somehow... tell people that they have to pick a house before they start editing. That's... the dream.--The-Boy 13:56, March 29, 2014 (UTC)
That's a good idea.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:31, March 29, 2014 (UTC)

The Dreadfort imageEdit

Where did it come from?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 17:12, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure. A new user uploaded this screenshot, and I cropped it from there.--The-Boy 17:17, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

Kingsguard loyalty for usersEdit

The Kingsguard of the show does have a "symbol" of sorts.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 17:43, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

True, but it's kinda uncertain whether or not it's supposed to be an actual sigil, or just an adornment for their armour.--The-Boy 17:56, April 2, 2014 (UTC)

Season 4 premiereEdit

Think of it: only 2 hours until Season 4 begins. Then the floodgates open. To say nothing of the horde of vandals, the massive amount of new work, we'll have dozens or even hundreds of random editors coming on making sloppy edits.

This will consume us, as you remember back in Season 3.

Good to be alongside you guys trying to handle this oncoming horde.

Have no illusions: not all of us will make it through premiere night alive.

The enemy is at the gates.

He who stands with me shall be my brother.

--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:09, April 6, 2014 (UTC)

And so it begins.--The-Boy 04:05, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

Dornish Sigils in "Two Swords"Edit

I needhelp identifying the last two sigils held by the Martell bannermen:

  • First pair: Dalt and Blackmont
  • Second pair: Manwoody and Qorgyle
  • Third pair: One with a checkered background and the other an orange banner: Jordayne and Uller?

In the books there are several houses present: Allyrion, Jordayne, UIler, Gargalen, Toland.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 05:02, April 7, 2014 (UTC)

No problem. Just give me a moment to finishing watching the episode, and I'll go back and take a closer look.--The-Boy 05:16, April 7, 2014 (UTC)
The Book of Brothers will finally give us a good mini-icon for the Kingsguard.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 06:55, April 7, 2014 (UTC)
Got it; not... great, but definitely better than before. It confirms that it is a sigil, at least.--The-Boy 13:52, April 7, 2014 (UTC)
I concur with the flames of Uller, but the second to last one is very hard to make out, as the Qorgyle banner gets in the way. You're probably right, but it could also be Yronwood.--The-Boy 13:35, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Upcoming Community Videos Edit

Hi there!

I'm Brian and I work with Wikia. I wanted to touch base with you about a series of recurring videos we have planned for the Game of Thrones community, and maybe being a part of it. Would you mind dropping me a line on my wall or by email at brian@wikia-inc.com when you have a moment? Thanks!

--Brian@Wikia 18:03, April 9, 2014 (UTC)

DeletionEdit

Hi there I'm just wondering why you deleted the page I created? Pgardiner (talk) 10:55, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

The "Best of GOT" page? Because this isn't the place for such things. We're an encyclopaedia, not a gossip forum.--The-Boy 11:00, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
I thought wikia was an open site for creating pages based on a topic, do you have a book of rules somewhere this is only my second page and I'm a novice?Pgardiner (talk) 11:05, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Surely all these pages are 'just gossip'  can't say I can see a difference between what I created and this one for instance http://divergent.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Asnow89/FOURTRIS_Romance_%26_Dystopian_Chicago-_The_Cast_RespondsPgardiner (talk) 11:11, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
I thought wikia was different from wikipedia? Can you explain the difference ?Pgardiner (talk) 11:17, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Every wiki is different. We are not the Divergent Wiki, we are the Game of Thrones Wiki, and we have very high standards. At any rate, the page you linked to was a blog, not an article, which is what you created. No, people cannot create any page they want as long as it's about the subject. In that respect we are much more like Wikipedia than other wikis. Please take the time to look around the site to see what we are about, and read our Policies and guidelines before editing further. Thank you.--The-Boy 11:32, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Hi there, thanks for this, I've now had a look at guidelines, but I definitely didn't link to a blog?  I don't have a blog, I was just trying to create a GOT ranking page for people to vote for their favourite characters etc so we could see who was the best knight, or the best member of Night's watch and so on.  I love the series and can't wait for next episode.  I can see there are serious pages on your wiki for people who like to read a lot ..but can't there be some lighthearted fun ones too?82.12.173.23 11:55, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think you gave me much of a chance to develop the page or to see if anyone else wanted to join in editing it, admittedly it was a beginners page but that's no reason to delete it?82.12.173.23 11:59, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Please let this go. No, new users are not allowed to publish sloppy, half-finished "humour" articles, and then leave them to be developed later. Now, the wiki has been heavily vandalised in the past few hours, and I'm in the process of fixing the damage: You're distracting me.--The-Boy 12:14, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Well I'm clearly not a vandal and was planning to develop the article I created at the weekend, so why don't you deal with the real villains and put my page back up so I can keep editing, is there a way of saving without publishing?  I could try again and save without publishing until it was better... every one has to have a chance and I've done nothing to suggest I'd do anything horrible to your wiki....Pgardiner (talk) 12:21, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
The page will not be recreated. If you continue pushing this you will be blocked from editing. Let it go.--The-Boy 12:31, April 10, 2014 (UTC)
Ok gone.  None taken. By the way there's an r missing in your profile it says when you 'fist signed up' ... assume you mean first?  I'm an editor by profession and these things have a tendency to leap out on me.

...You're an editor who doesn't realize the distinction between articles of substance and needless fluff? I'm an editor too, of a sort, editing out non sequitor additions...(shrug)....ban this person at your discretion, Boy, I don't feel like getting worked up over it...--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:10, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

While I do need a new cloak... it may be a bit early to get the knifes out. I'll let her run round the woods for a bit, and we'll see what happens.--The-Boy 16:29, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Mace Tyrell imageEdit

I'd like to ask you to find a better quality one, if its not too much trouble.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 20:26, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

I can have a look, but to my knowledge that's the only in-universe one at the moment. We may have to wait until Sunday.--The-Boy 20:40, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Title blacklistEdit

Did the wikia folks tell you what's up with the title blacklist, I won't want anyone creating articles on the "two swords" until they are named in the show.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 21:14, April 10, 2014 (UTC)

Hey. I did respond on your talk-page about this a while ago... you must not have seen. Long story short, there's nothing wrong with the blacklist; Greater good created the Jon Connington page, and, as as admin, the blacklist didn't prevent him from doing so. It only protects pages against creation by regular users. Have any other articles been created that shouldn't have?--The-Boy 13:54, April 12, 2014 (UTC)

 ? Edit

Okay, thank you for your help...Ashley Brown (talk) 09:32, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, It looks like I need some help with getting the information to show and I need help with identifying an episode for Arya Stark that I have for when she got older. Is it possible you could help? I also need help with the first picture of Sansa Stark with her mom. I can't seem to find what episode the photo is from? I know what season and episodes that the first photo of Arya, latest episode of Sansa, and both 1st and 4th season where Daenery's was featured.

DanyDEdit

I think you should state the reason that led to DanyD getting banned.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 23:11, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

Nevermind, I checked and did it myself.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 23:15, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

CastportalEdit

I'm expanding the frontpage castportal to 5 x 5, and thus it will have enough space to include Roose and Ramsay. I'm pressed for time. I will load in placeholder images for both, but can you please find images for both of them, of your preference? Crucially, they need to be re-sized to be the same size as the other cast portal images.

Go to this page and edit in source mode: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Template:Castportal

You just find the part where is says "Ramsay" or "Roose" and swap in the title of the photos when you're ready.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:55, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

Excellent. Will do.--The-Boy 06:10, April 14, 2014 (UTC)

I'm sorryEdit

I'm sorry, if I've done something wrong. I can see you redone last episode. I've been on this site since ending of season 2 (I think). I got told by Opark that "Last episode" gets updated after every episode. I've not  received any complaint about it, and it wasn't corrected either. It's a new thing? I sincerly  sorry for causing you that trouble it's that the case. Mesmermann (talk) 10:26, April 14, 2014 (UTC)

It's okay, it's not a huge problem, but it's a habit we need to break. Opark probably had his own way of doing things, but it's definitely not necessary or correct to change such a minor, trivial thing after every single episode. In fact, I'm not convinced we need those fields at all, and once season four is finished I'd like us to have a major remodelling of all our infoboxes to make them A: more relevant, and B: more aesthetically pleasing. That's a major undertaking, however, and needs to be discussed properly with everyone when we're not all so busy.--The-Boy 10:36, April 14, 2014 (UTC)
I'm glad I know it now, for else I will do it next week all over again. Will Character infobox also lose Last episode? --Mesmermann (talk) 11:18, April 14, 2014 (UTC)
Like I said, it will need to be discussed in depth once the season is over.--The-Boy 11:57, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

Wait, what change is being discussed her?

I don't have anything particular in mind yet, just toying with some ideas. I'll be drawing up a sandbox soon, and do some experimenting with infobox codes.--The-Boy 19:30, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

Season 2 recapsEdit

We're too busy to get to them now, but please don't delete the Season 2 character pages (and restore the ones you've deleted). We do need to eventually integrate them back together -- basically all the work we wrote up during Season 2 got gutted out of the actual articles and put onto separate pages.

This will have to be on-hold for a while, probably until Season 4 is over. But we will eventually need to salvage anything useful from those pages before deleting them forever.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:34, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I jumped the gun a bit there. I've restored them.--The-Boy 19:30, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

New Fat Walda family tree imageEdit

Could you make one with the profile image?

Done.--The-Boy 11:00, April 18, 2014 (UTC)

New navboxes Edit

I have created a few new navboxes. Please take a look at them and improve them any way you see fit.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 05:26, April 19, 2014 (UTC)

Olenna TyrellEdit

A Wikia Contributor removed that information...

Take a look here -- The Snow Prince (talk) 11:17, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I know, I checked. Don't worry, I wasn't suggesting it was you.--The-Boy 12:17, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

Night's King/White WalkerEdit

Any link to an official source?

Viewer's Guide. Like I said on the talk-page, they've changed it now. Presumably because they realised how big of a spoiler it was, but there's always the possibility that it was just an error.--The-Boy 20:07, April 28, 2014 (UTC)

The folks at HBO like to mess everything up. You know how they call Guymon?: OLLY!--Gonzalo84 (talk) 20:19, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think it an error with the Night's King because Bryan Cogman would not comment it in interviews and in Inside the Episode they only mention it as a part of the White Walkers.--Mesmermann (talk) 20:37, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
With this last mess, and their terrible use of names (like Cersei Baratheon on the episode summary), I think those folks at the HBO website should be consulting us.
Agreed, it is known! Mesmermann, you're probably right, but in the interests of remaining on HBO's good side we'll have to keep them separate for now.--The-Boy 13:30, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

Guymon/OllyEdit

Talk:Guymon What if it was the dad who was Guymon and he's Olly. --Mesmermann (talk) 21:05, April 29, 2014 (UTC)

I thought that as well when I saw the episode. I'll do some investigating.--The-Boy 13:30, April 30, 2014 (UTC)

New cropped infobox character imagesEdit

I think that whenever we post a cropped image at the infobox we should also post the full, non-cropped version on the galleries.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 04:25, May 2, 2014 (UTC)

Season 4 Edit

The Season 4 page has not been updated properly since the season started. As only admins can currently make edits to it is there any chance you'd be able to either update it or change the protection level? It's not like seasons 5 or 6 are protected. Rachel P 06:45, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Done.--The-Boy 06:47, May 5, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. Rachel P 11:03, May 5, 2014 (UTC)
No worries.--The-Boy 11:22, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Catching upEdit

I'm sorry I've fallen behind in the first half of the season: I had to finish my thesis and pass my Latin test to graduate. Against all odds I have succeeded, and I will be receiving my Master's degree in medieval History in two weeks. I've fallen very far behind though.

The past two seasons I usually trailed off in the last half of the season because final papers got in the way; now the reverse will happen. Time has been freed up so I should be more on the ball for the second half. I did keep handwritten notes as I was watching them, just for anything important, and there are half a dozen other major updates I need to make -- at least I was able to get the front page redesign in. Still, I didn't want to just leave you guys abandoned on here without explanation.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 13:20, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Userbox - atheistEdit

I don't think "Atheist" is an in-universe term that they'd actually use. Wouldn't something like "This User doesn't believe in any gods" work better? Along similar lines, you actually made a good catch with the "gay" userbox: "Gay" and "homosexual" aren't terms that exist in Westeros (for that matter, these terms didn't exist in medieval Europe - "gay" meant "happy" a century ago, etc.) You did what I would have suggested: the phrase they used in-universe, which is "prefers the company of men".

Speaking of which, while some think Brynden Tully never married because he secretly loved Minisa Tully but she was promised to his older brother, I have this mental image of how they'll reintroduce Brynden leading the Siege of Riverrun (which drags on in the background for like 2 novels) - something like he has this kick-ass fight scene fending off a Frey sortie over the walls, then the Riverrun garrison commiserates, and some young soldier says he doesn't want to die an unmarried virgin - talk then turns to "hey, Brynden, why didn't you ever get married?" -- and then very gruffly he says, "screw it. We're all going to die I might as well say it. It's because I do not enjoy the company of women." (to their surprise). The books never really confirmed that one way or another.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 13:20, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, you're right. To be honest I wasn't really thinking about them in terms of "in or out of universe". I guess the obvious choice would be Salladhor Saan - "This user is an unbeliever", or something along those lines. I plan to do the other sexuality ones, I just need to find good screenshots of Ellaria and Oberyn. Let me know if there are any others you think would be worth while. Obviously all the houses will get one... eventually, other faiths, orders etc. I've made an age one to, but I'm going to alter it so it says - "this user is in his 23rd year", and so on.
Brynden... if he is indeed gay, I sincerely hope that they manage to write it into the show somehow. Your scenario would be pretty much a dream come true.--The-Boy 13:53, May 5, 2014 (UTC)\

Well okay; the userboxes are fun but I don't really have any great ideas; I mean it was basic just to get started with "this user likes this House" and it just spreads from there.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 14:36, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

"This user enjoys watching" with Petyr's eye spying. "This user has been resurrected by the Lord of Light". "This user owes the Iron Bank of Braavos". "This user survived his wedding"--Gonzalo84 (talk) 20:05, May 5, 2014 (UTC)
Those are good ones!--The-Boy 20:14, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

Template:Season Four AppearancesEdit

There is an error in Template:Season Four Appearances. Both The Laws of God and Men and Mockingbird is counted as episode six. Mockingbird is episode seven. I can't edit it because the page is locked. --Mesmermann (talk) 18:34, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for brining this to my attention. I've changed the protection level so you can edit it.--The-Boy 09:55, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Joffrey's page Edit

Do you plan on changing the protection level back to normal? I'm just curious.. it seems like the vandalism problem probably ran it's course. Mandon (talk) 05:15, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Agreed. I've changed the protection level so registered users can edit the page.--The-Boy 09:55, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

What D&D say about the Sept scene Edit

I went looking for D&D's opinion about the Sept scene and found they seem to be disagreeing with director Graves. "When Jaime forces himself on Cersei," Benioff says, "It becomes a really horrifying scene because you see obviously Joffrey's body right there and you see that Cersei is resisting. She's saying 'no' and he's forcing himself on her. It was a really uncomfortable scene, and a really tricky scene to shoot." [1]. That's all I can find from them. They refused to be interviewed by the New York Times for a May 2 story[2]. I'd be interested in reading what you have about their explicit denial that it was a rape scene. Alatari (talk) 12:19, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, I must have mixed up D&D's comments with Graves'. I'm not sure who's take seniority in this matter then.--The-Boy 12:30, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Image (Free Folk) category Edit

I'm afraid its time to create an image category for, at least, the main characters and perhaps some recurring ones like Dontos Hollard or Locke.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 17:20, May 11, 2014 (UTC)

Yup. I've been working on it this part month; breaking them down a little bit at a time. First into houses, and then eventually into individuals, locations and so on. Gods help us, it's going to take forever... but it needs to be done. Such vague, basic categories like "Character" are useless on a wiki this size.--The-Boy 18:18, May 11, 2014 (UTC)

Needs croppingEdit

This image you uploaded is in need of cropping File:Ramsay-and-Myranda-402.jpg. Thanks! --Gonzalo84 (talk) 22:31, May 13, 2014 (UTC)

HD pictures!Edit

Out of curiosity, where exactly do you find these HD profile pictures? – The Snow Prince (talk) 12:47, May 15, 2014 (UTC)

Here.--The-Boy 14:52, May 15, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you. -- (unsigned by Hanno7)

New to imagesEdit

"Cropped slightly; good job though." - on the Arya-Stark-Profile-HD picture (file history section)

I'm relatively new to adding images, so I'm thankful for this feedback. Noticed when you updated the photo that metadata was added, so I wonder, how was it added? And another question, what method did you use when you cropped the image? Appreciate any help! – The Snow Prince (talk) 18:04, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

No worries, and thank you; you've definitely got the right idea with that Arya image, it just needed to be a bit tighter. I'm afraid I don't now how meta data is added, but I crop and save images with GIMP2, so that may have something to do with it.--The-Boy 19:13, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the information. It's getting late here in Sweden (10 PM), so I will make a test photo tomorrow and see how I do (with GIMP2). – The Snow Prince (talk) 20:15, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

RE: HD PicturesEdit

Sorry for the late reply. I'm definitely interested in improving character profile pictures. Unfortunately, I don't have much time just now to do some global changes in this section, but I think that it is possible for me to continue this work in the future. Thebegnob (talk) 13:18, May 17, 2014 (UTC)

Image (Subject)Edit

I think it would be less confusing if it was "Images by subject".--Gonzalo84 (talk) 17:52, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, will do.--The-Boy 19:13, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

Disturbing commentsEdit

"This video game sucks so much ass crack that I illiterately had to suck my own dick because of how porno this was. The end. P.S. I hate the King of the Hill. Penis." - Wikia contributor

"You inspired me to make my own porno film check it out guys. The video is Quest for CUM" - Wikia contributor

These contributors needs to be dealt with. I'm in no postion to make a call here, so could you take care of it?...or any other administrater who sees this? – The Snow Prince (talk) 16:47, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

You should embrace the books more. I'm pretty sure people would like to know everything they can about it. Lighten up.

Is, was, and always shall be, the Bastard of BoltonEdit

So...will you do the honors and rename the Ramsay page?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 02:56, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Done. Is the suggestion here that lords can legitimize their own bastards?--The-Boy 07:07, June 2, 2014 (UTC)
Well, no...I think that, as in the books, Roose asked the Lannisters to have Tommen sign a legitimization decree, and obtained it as a favor for his loyal service in the war. The TV show doesn't make clear the origins of the parchment that Roose hands Ramsay (I hope a screenshot of the prop turns up). It's not as if Roose has no input though; he had to ask for Ramsay to be legitimized (he apparently never even asked before, despite having no male heir for a few years). But let's just assume it's a royal decree requested by Roose and signed by Tommen. No need to assume lords can suddenly legitimize their own bastards.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 17:41, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

GOOD NEWS: The Making Game of Thrones blog posted an image of the prop: http://wicnet.tumblr.com/post/87839764926/ramsays-note-of-legitimacy-roose-bestows-this

It clearly bears the seal of King Tommen - it has the House Baratheon of King's Landing wax seal of a stag and lion.

So it was a royal decree (which Roose requested) just as in the books.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:46, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

Season 4 finaleEdit

The Season 4 finale is upon us. The internet is going to explode after this one, on par with or surpassing the Red Wedding or Ned Stark's death. Enough traffic that the site itself might slow to a crawl, much less all of the vandals or random anonymous editors who need to tinker with it.

The hordes are closing in.

This is where we hold them.

Remember this day.

Sorry I wasn't able to get on earlier. I moved house at the weekend, and have just set my workstation up. No Stoneheart... this is understandable, as they need time to set up the fact that the Brotherhood is still harrying the Lannister forces, and that Beric is dead. This will probably be brought up at Cersei's small council meetings next year. I'm a little disappointed, but I guess they want to leave it as long as possible so it has the maximum shock value for the Unsullied. I felt Tywin's death was a bit ant-climatic. Where do whores go? We may never know... Apart from that, outstanding finale. Especially the Raven, and Stannis' arrival at the Wall.--The-Boy 14:49, June 16, 2014 (UTC)

Oh too many people complain about lack of Stoneheart. Yes, three years ago my mental dream for the Season 4 finale consisted of three things happening in rapid succession, and only the Tyrion one did (and without Tysha?), but there wasn't really enough time and I'd rather they give it the setup it's due.

Moreover, if you think about it, Benioff has openly lamented that if they're adapting "book 4" and "book 5" as one long novel...they have to cut it in half across two seasons, just as book 3 was. Thus the ending of "Season 5" will be the mid-points of books 4 and 5...and have no true climax whatsoever!

So what I'm starting to suspect is that they're holding off on Stoneheart and saving it for the Season 5 finale, as a makeshift "climax to give people something to talk about and tantalize them to return next season". And fine, I can see why they'd want to do that. I do hope we get to see the Siege of Riverrun next year, we had no Tullys this year. --The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:47, June 22, 2014 (UTC)

The Snow Prince for Admin Edit

I have started a vote on the matter right here. Your opinion would be welcome.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 20:18, June 16, 2014 (UTC)

New Image policyEdit

I'm far behind: can you pleas summarize to me what the new image policy is?

Why has The Snow Prince been removing the season by season categories from images?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 02:40, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Image categorized by episode, by character, by noble house... the image by season can be used for promotional "posed" images and to categorize each episode image category.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 03:58, June 19, 2014 (UTC)
It's pretty straightforward. Basically we have a new licensing template that should be added to all HBO related images, including all screencaps from Game of Thrones, all promotional images and posters, and all images from the Histories and Lore featurettes; basically any GoT image. The new template provides all the necessary legal information, meaning we no longer have to write out tediously long "this image is" summaries. Regarding the categories, me and The Snow Prince have been breaking them down into more specific sub-categories. Having a single "Character" category for all of the thousands of images on this site just isn't sustainable. Instead, we now have "Image (Tyrion Lannister)" and so on. this is the new tag template. The hope here is that by simplifying the tagging process people will be more inclined to actually do it, rather than just leaving it to us admins.--The-Boy 13:54, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

True Blood Edit

Yeah, I'm not expecting to be all that entertained, but I think my boyfriend and I will watch it just because there isn't really anything else going on. lol. I won't be rushing to it though, just when we remember. Of all the shows that ever had potential and completely lost track, TB is the top of my list. Sad. Feels good to be back! I couldn't risk spoilers until I got to see the show myself...without internet and HBO, it gets rather difficult. ;) QueenBuffyPink crown 14:40, June 21, 2014 (UTC)

Protagonist Edit

Hi, I wanted to ask you about this whole "the protagonist of the season" thing. It doesn't feel right call any character by that title. To cite Wikipedia, "In some novels, the protagonists may be impossible to identify, because multiple plots in the novel do not permit clear identification of one as the main plot". Sure, some main characters are more main then others, and one can make the argument that Ned is the protagonist of season 1, Tyrion season 2, but I would rather call them focal characters, not protagonists. Has someone in the television crew named this characters as the protagonists? --Martell (talk) 18:49, June 22, 2014 (UTC)

I usually use "one of the main protagonists" of a specific book/season, to refer to those who feature prominently at the moment.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:00, June 22, 2014 (UTC)
My view is that we shouldn't include OOU information in the intros at all. Stuff like the number of episodes, meaningless distinctions like "minor character", "recurring character" and so on should go.--The-Boy 22:40, June 22, 2014 (UTC)

Jaime/Cersei rape or not? Edit

To avoid an all out edit war it's probably best to bring it up here.

I'd like to point out that Alex Graves claiming it's not rape doesn't actually mean it wasn't rape. He was under a lot of pressure at the time given the controversy that started from that episode, and his personal views on what constitutes rape doesn't negate or change the definition of the word. The fact that Cersei didn't give Jaime consent [the contrary, actually] and he continued doing it means, within the confines of the literal definition of the word, that it was rape. That quote of Graves' actually sparked a great deal of controversy because of how ignorant he is... I don't think it should be used to decide whether or not that scene should be considered a rape scene since the man doesn't even understand what constitutes rape. Mandon (talk) 23:11, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

That scene was badly written and poorly filmed, no one is denying that. But ultimately, yes, Alex Graves saying it wasn't rape means it wasn't rape. As the director he understands what is going on in the minds of the characters better than we do, and as the director it is him we must defer to. It was in extremely poor taste for them to film a scene where Cersei appears to be raped, and then to turn around and say it wasn't, but as an encyclopaedia we have to take the bad with the good and record the writer's/director's intentions, not what we think happened.--The-Boy 10:34, June 27, 2014 (UTC)
The thing this reminds me of is this BBCAmerica show about Ian Flemming, the real life James Bond spy/author of James Bond. There's this one scene with a cold open of him having rough sex with a woman in restraints - with the camera zoomed in and using harsh, quick cuts in such a way to intentionally present it to the audience that she is genuinely in distress and struggling....then the camera pulls out to a wideshot, and when they finish she starts giggling, and you are shown "oh, wait, they were just having really rough bondage sex games".....NONETHELESS, it was a disturbing cheap shot to, for about 30 seconds, imply to the audience that this was a rape scene of some kind.
Again...dear god, you never answer "maybe" like Benioff did when people ask "was that rape or wasn't it"? When is that EVER a grey area?!
Had Benioff and Weiss flat out said, "we changed it in the TV continuity so that Jaime officially raped Cersei"...I'd have completely given up on the show, as they'd completely derailed the characters. Given that they stated this was not what happened, and they have objective knowledge of events in the series, we just have to chalk it up to a really bizarre camera direction decision. And they think this makes them clever and edgy.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:59, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

Will Tudor's return Edit

He mentions in this interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNuRJhQsCl0 that he'll be returning for season 5 - I'm not sure how to add it to the season 5 page though! CoyoteDork (talk) 19:49, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, Finn Jones apparently said in a separate interview that he will also have another "intimate" scene in Season 5 - I suppose with Olyver.
Check the notes and links I put in "Kissed by Fire" to Cogman's Westeros.org interview; their one complaint was that Loras seemed oddly over Renly if he was having sex with Olyver, and Cogman explained that he scripted more lines/scenes to make it clear that Loras is just "drowning his sorrows" with casual sex in an attempt to feel better - and it doesn't work, he's still miserable.
So my hope is that in Season 5, they get off of the "lets have Loras be campy" train, and get serious. What I would do, anyway, is have an Olyver/Loras sex scene...to segway into him looking really melancholy and emotionally unfulfilled afterwards, maybe look over Renly's old stuff in his room...then use this as a launching board for Loras to voluntarily want to join the Kingsguard. To explain why he'd want to join the Kingsguard. Then they could work in his famous line in the books, i.e. someone says "are you sure, Loras? The Kingsguard are forbidden to marry. You will never be allowed to love again." to which he says the whole "once the sun has set, no candle can replace it" line.....and maybe an added explanation that "if I'm a Kingsguard it also means I have an excuse to be following new-Queen Margaery around armed with a sword, guarding to make sure the Lannisters don't try anything underhanded with her."
Or, they might just be randomly throwing some junk scenes in with no attention to character arcs and progression. Crud.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:04, July 20, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I've added the source to the article. I'm personally hoping that Olyver will choose to accompany Ellaria back to Dorne.--The-Boy 21:26, July 20, 2014 (UTC)
People do tend to have a longer life expectancy there than in the capital.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:42, July 24, 2014 (UTC)
Will Tudor's confirmed he's got another scene with Finn next year, so that won't be happening. Shame. I really wanted him to take on the role of one of the Dornish characters from Feast. One of the "Queenmakers", mayhaps. Oh well, more dongs is good too I guess.--The-Boy 07:08, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Names in intro quotesEdit

...For the opening quotes in articles, don't we always bold the name of the character if it's their own article? That is, if it's a quote by Tyrion, heading the Tyrion page, don't we bold "Tyrion" in the attribution?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:42, July 24, 2014 (UTC)

Nope, I've no idea why people have been doing that, as it's completely out of format. Wikipedia's Manual of Style states that the subject of an article should only be bolded once, in the first sentence of the opening paragraph. There are exceptions, of course. "Sandor Clegane, also nicknamed The Hound" is fine, because it's relevant, but doing it in the opening quote is pointless.--The-Boy 07:08, July 25, 2014 (UTC)
