I was very excited that Wikia got to set up a panel with cast members like this.

Iron Price and Old Way
+
What was it like? Was any of our submitted Q&A answered?

I believe the Old Way is the more wide concept, which includes the "iron price", and it has been openly established in the House Greyjoy featurette. What do you think, separate articles or "Iron Price" as a subsection of the Old Way?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 19:38, March 3, 2013 (UTC)
+
I don't understand: how was this panel associated with Wikia as a topic?
:The problem is that the Starks also call the Old Gods "the Old Way", in dialogue on-screen (episode 1, Bran answers Ned that Ned had to personally execute a Night's Watch deserter, because "our way is the Old Way"). It's vague enough that I think it may be better to put all of the ironborn info onto "Iron Price" (noting that they call the overall pattern "the old way"), but make a disambiguation page noting that this could refer to either the Old Gods of the North, or the ironborn raiding lifestyle.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:06, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

:: I have placed the irnonborn Old Way - which mirrors AWoIAF - under "Old Way (ironborn)", just in case.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 21:36, March 3, 2013 (UTC)

How did you promote or discuss Game of Thrones Wiki at the panel? What did the cast have to say about it? (we always hope they read our stuff)

Porterfield is someone who works at Wikia, and there's a big effort by Wikia to publicise the Wiki at the moment as noted on the blog entry. Whether this is a good thing or not is up for debate: Boy Who Cried Direwolf has already pointed out several major flaws with it. It's also worth noting that the Wiki generates an absolute ton of hits and traffic for Wikia (and thus advertising revenue), especially during the time the show is on-air, so clearly they want to get in on that to advertise Wikia as a whole. However, we are also only able to do the work on the Wiki that we do because of Wikia providing the service, so giving something back to them seems reasonable, as long as it does not disrupt the Wiki itself too much.--Werthead (talk) 10:34, March 6, 2013 (UTC)

You didn't give a report on how the panel went on the wiki so I was unaware what happened. The Wikia panel was almost four months ago, and the only thing you mentioned about it on Game of Thrones Wiki before was three months ago when you loaded that photo of you with Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy): http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/User:Werthead?diff=134785&oldid=28401
:I'm sorry, I didn't realize this was a wikia-wide cross-promotion sort of thing (my criticisms were basically those off the Boy: having it on our front page would make people sign up just to compete then leave). But I didn't realize this was bigger than I thought it was. I guess I associated it with that girl who came on here trying to get us to sign up for her own fan awards despite never contributing, but this is different.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:57, March 7, 2013 (UTC)

:"One of the several other hats I wear is the founder and admin of the Game of Thrones Wiki, which has reached a high of 12 million hits per week during this season. Wikia, which runs the whole network, wanted me to join in a panel on the show. Initially it was just going to be myself, Jamie Hari of the Marvel and DC Database Wikis and Alfie 'Theon' Allen, but we were eventually also joined by Kristian Nairn (Hodor) and Natalia Tena (Osha). The actors were fashionably late, which left myself and Jamie to hold down the fort with several hundred fans for the opening minutes.

Kingsguard Season 3
:"The panel seemed to be successful. Alfie talked about the process of playing such a damaged character as Theon and Kristian the various ways the directors have got him to act with such restricted dialogue. Natalia talked about the importance of the TV show as a separate entity to the books and the urgent need for male/female nudity parity in the show. I mused on the fan theory that Littlefinger is turning into Batman (the voice) and we threw it out there that Joffrey had faked his own death."

The panel ended up being rushed due to a lack of firm planning. At one point we were only getting one actor and we only had all three confirmed at the last minute (Alfie in particular seemed uncertain if he was going to do it). We were also told that we were only getting all three actors for the last quarter hour or so, and then we had them for a lot longer. The decision was then made to allow the audience (which was easily 300-400 strong) to ask questions rather than firing questions at them from a long list. The actors didn't stick around for very long afterwards. So it was a bit more of an 'event hosted by Wikia' thing than an event about the Wiki in any real detail. Some fans and readers were in the audience and talked to me about the site afterwards, but we didn't get a chance to discuss the site very much with the actors.

I am also hoping to be able to visit the Wiki more often soon. Six months of both shift work and increased paid writing work in other venues has left me with almost no time whatsoever to work on the Wiki (and you will notice a significant decrease in blog activity as well, and what there has been has been rather brief). This situation looks like easing, at least somewhat, in the near future.--Werthead (talk) 18:42, August 25, 2014 (UTC)

If I may, I'd recommend deleting duplicate blogs, such as this. The Wikia staff have already created a "what will happen in season 3" blog, and allowing users to start multiple ones will result in the recent activity page being reduced to an un-navigable mess of shallow, inane comments.-- 17:59, March 21, 2013 (UTC)

Hey, Dragon! Wikia is in the process of working on a Game of Thrones Wiki community app and we could really use your help! Would you or the other admins mind helping us curate categories for the GOT Community App? The curation lives on this page and there are instructions on there for adding/removing categories that will appear in the app itself. Let me know if you have any questions! P.S. The page says Game Guides right now but that will change eventually! Acharia has said very clearly on Reddit that the visa issue has been overcome and she could have stayed on the show easily, but the writers decided she should go. I'm at a loss as to what is causing this... but one possible fix might be to move them above the infobox, as AWoIaF does. We could even create special shield shaped versions for this purpose.--Ser Patrek (talk) 10:02, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

Oh okay...thanks for your effort..."in the books" is supposed to be SPOILER FREE but relevant information from the books; it ceases to be a spoiler if the TV series outpaced it. For example, Joffrey's humiliation of Sansa in the courtroom in the fourth episode of season 2 was much more graphic in the books, so we might explain how that was done differently. Oh, just general background information that the books gave about the characters that the TV show hasn't yet but doesn't "spoil" anything. Just try and we'll correct stuff and you'll learn by example. When in doubt....if you're unsure of what to add, logically, don't add hundreds of posts a day (some idiot a few months back would make hundreds of bad edits a day to "in the books" while admitting that he didn't know what he was doing. This wasnt' "learning" this was "ignoring our warnings".
+
: Ah, I think I've found the answer: The files size for some of these heraldry images are simply too large, (over 1,000px in some cases) they're overloading the "name" field. Up till now I've just been resizing the wonky ones so they fit again, but now I'm seeing ones that I've already fixed have been displaced again. Obviously we can't just keep shrinking them, as eventually they'll be so small as to be indistinct. I think the solution is to create separate mini versions of the images that can fit in the infobox at their own size, without needing to be scaled down.--Ser Patrek (talk) 13:00, September 7, 2014 (UTC)
Well, for that information you posted about Rhaegar for example (sorry I yelled) that stuff about his personality or appearance would go under "in the books" - it doesn't really spoil anything to say he enjoyed reading and was quite scholarly before taking up the sword, etc. This is "public knowledge" you see; but shocking revelations about Rhaegar from later books should not be put in (i.e. you really shouldn't bring up Jon Connington at this point). --The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:45, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your answer. I see now, and ofcourse no problem about the yelling. I understand it must be frustrating to see newcomers make bad edits while the rules have grown custom to you. I would really like to edit a few of those 'In the books' categories and will keep in mind what to write and what not to. Ofcourse I won't make many at the same time and I'll check if anyone changes what I wrote. I would really like to contribute to this wikia as I've been using it for a long time and this seems like a great opportunity to learn and keep expanding my knowledge of GoT. Again, thanks for your time and I promiss to do better in the future. Grumphy (talk) 23:50, March 24, 2013 (UTC)

:Well those are fun, but we don't have the "official"...tail design? for every house. Most use the foreground color (Baratheon uses black tails, Bolton uses red tails) but some use alternate colors (Starks apparently use a green tail in the TV version? Or something?)...and I'm not even sure what multi-colored ones like the Tullys would use...

Yup, actually. We can certainly have an article about it (it falls into the same category as grumpkins and snarks, or legendary stories). Once S3 kicks in, we can even bring in a comment about the proper giants in the world and how Macumba doesn't fit their description). Also, it doesn't matter if it's not mentioned in the books. If it's mentioned in the TV show, that's fair enough. I actually had a good thought on the canon/continuity differences between the two shows: GAME OF THRONES is the Marvel Ultimates version of ASoIaF. The same story and characters, but completely separate from the original with the freedom to do its own thing if it wants.--Werthead (talk) 22:07, March 26, 2013 (UTC)

Starts here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/116987-titancon-2014-world-reading/page-4
Knights are not considered to be nobility, but they have their own set of rights and privileges which are similar. They have the right to trial by combat and landed knights have the rights of laws and gallows (i.e. to set rules on their land which do not contravene the king's law and to execute criminals for heinous offences). In theory, a knight, even a hedge knight, should still be treated with respect and courtesy by everyone, although in practice a hedge knight will be looked down upon by a sworn sword or a lord. Being a knight is something of a big deal in Westeros (as seen by Ser Hugh refusing to talk even to the personal representative of the Hand of the King in Season 1 because he's not a knight), but not as big as being a proper lord.--Werthead (talk) 10:50, March 29, 2013 (UTC)

During the first three fourths of the Dance (what TPATQ covers) Winterfell did declare for Rhaenyra, but House Dustin and House Manderly are also singled out. Keep in mind that Robb Stark could rally an army of 20,000 to head south relatively quickly...and this probably isn't all of the able-bodied men; the North is vast and a point is that it takes a while for them to rally all of their soldiers and get put on a war footing. Specifically, during the Targaryen Conquest, consider how long it took Torrhen Stark to assemble his whole army (the war was already over after the Field of Fire). Anyway, while the North did make major contributions to the war...the "Winter Wolves" led by Roderick Dustin who came south numbered only 2,000 men. This is apparently just the standing household men-at-arms they could assemble at short notice - great and professional warriors, but not every able-bodied man who could hold a spear...AND, the Winter Wolves did a LOT of damage to the Greens, vastly out of proportion to their numbers, before the last of them were killed at First Tumbleton. Cregan Stark was probably just a child at the time, because he later fought Aemon the Dragonknight some 30-40 years later, and Aemon always said he was the toughest opponent he ever faced, plus Cregan did not seem very proactive in the Dance but delegated it to commanders like Roderick (he might not have been a "child",

Anyway, Aegon III came to the throne at 11 years old, but it would be five years until he came of legal age, so a regency council was set up to rule until then - with members chose from both the Blacks and the Greens, as neither side truly won the war. Jeyne Arryn was one, the severely mutilated Tyland Lannister was another, etc.

What we found out in this reading is that:
:Actually I'm enraged. Ch'Vyalthan took enough time from us (combined with CestWhat's pestering this past week) that we have a lot of work to do that we didn't finish. I do *loosely* have all of the Culture stuff I wanted to get up, well most of it (though it needs quotes and images). I kept putting off revamping the Dragons article for months; I want to lock it (every yahoo anonymous IP editor comes on to edit the shiny dragons article "because dragons are cool!", randomly inserts some sentences without realizing they're redundant, then leaves never to edit again. Also why I've at least blocked all of the major character articles from anonymous editing - seriously, the "Robb, Jon, Tyrion, Arya, Daenerys, Dragons" crowd buzzing the wiki just goof up the rest of us. (sigh) -- I should be done fixing up all the Culture stuff and such soon enough, but I haven't been able to rewatch the first two seasons "with a fine toothed comb", pausing scene by scene to squeeze every ounce of info out of them (I only just finished "Lord Snow"). I can't wait for episode 9 of Season 3, that's when all the shallow fans will get their surprise - the folks on Entertainment Weekly or blogs or whatever that only watch the show because it's "watercooler TV" or for the sex scenes; they have no idea what this story is.--The Dragon Demands (talk)

Yes. Anyone who wants to compare the pilot episode would be reading the article on "Winter is Coming" and see the link to "previous episode". By the way, I was interested in creating a new top-level tab on "Culture and Society" separate from "Episodes" and "Characters" so casual fans will find those easier (I suspect that most of them just click on "Tyrion Lannister" and the title of the most current episode - how would they even find "Faith of the Seven"?) - but I have no idea how to do that.
+
*Cregan Stark and the rest of the Northern army finally arrived south, but by then the war had ended (Aegon II died through as yet unknown circumstances leaving Aegon III as the only male heir). Again, the North "contributed" to the war - they sent their best hand-picked men south as "the Winter Wolves" - this was the general army of regular, less well trained but far more numerous guys (okay, this is me speculating). At any rate, Cregan and his Northern reinforcements arrive south to find the war is ended - he is not amused, nor are his bannermen, many of them sons or younger brothers of other Northerners who died earlier in the war. To appease Lord Stark, they decided to make him the new Hand of the King and Regent: he declared that he would hold trials and executions. The "trials" and executions all lasted a single day: he knew who he wanted dead so he had all of their heads on spikes in one day. He did at least give them the option to take the black as an alternative to death, and several did leave for the Wall. He was Hand and Regent it seems for a single day; the day after the executions, satisfied, he began the return journey home. Afterwards they came up with the idea to make a "Regency council" composed of seven members, chosen from both the surviving Blacks and surviving Greens.
Oh Dany gets "badass" moments independent of the dragons in book 3 -- well the dragons are cooler than ever and they are an extension of her, but we're not just staring at CGI dragons anymore; her story picks up. Remember: the idiot hands her the whip. He handed her the god-damned whip. Dear god I couldn't tell if I was laughing or crying.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:37, April 1, 2013 (UTC)
+
*Most of Cregan's army, however, stayed behind: again, many were younger second sons who were too young at the start of the war, but many still had surviving older brothers/fathers. Some swore themselves to southron lords, others became sellswords, but many became bandits - which was already a serious problem due to the breakdown in public order caused by the Dance itself.

:...I am deeply angered that they essentially abandoned us to suffer the deprivations of Ch'Vyalthan's Reign of Terror from October to January Fall 2012. I don't think we should change the name; I've seen problems with this on other wikis that take on specific in-universe names for Admins or Moderators. Titles like "Administrator" or "Moderator" are universal and carry weight when you're chewing people out. Fansites that call their Admins "Rangers" or "Wizards" etc., the title doesn't carry the same weight anymore.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:19, April 2, 2013 (UTC)

<p style="margin-top:1em;margin-bottom:1em;">

:Real life often gets in the way of contributions. People get into relationships, get new jobs that are exhausting, or simply lose their passion for a project after putting tons of work into it. I'm certainly grateful to those admins and former contributors who did lots of work who, for whatever reason, are no longer contributing. If they also executed the position of admin well before in the past, I see no problem with them retaining the position if and when they return. Certainly I've been highly active on wikis in the past and have essentially given up on them to work on this one, but intermittently return to work on the others when I have the time. I see no reason to remove admin powers from anyone unless they are actually abusing them.--Werthead (talk) 11:23, April 12, 2013 (UTC)

I was wondering about certain adjective vocab words on some pages. For example: in the Daenerys Targaryen article, the image states drogon is the size of a small dog, but in the description you wrote he is the size of a large dogS. i dont want to undo your change, but i do think it would be better to have consistency between the image text and the article text, also, Drogon is the size of a small dog, not a large one, it says so in the books (chapter 27) and also simply from common sense.[[User:Darklarik|Noc noc... whos their? :Oh...I had intended to write "large dog" one every article, and if that was inconsistent it was a mistake. I'm a cat person so I kind of forget just how large dogs can get (St. Bernards, Mastiffs, etc.). If the books stated "small dogs", then yes we should say "small dogs" in our descriptions ( I remember from A Clash of Kings that Dany points out that Dragons seem a lot bigger than they actually are, because they're creatures of mostly wing, neck, and tail; their body cores are much smaller - which they'd kind of have to be, to in any way plausibly be able to carry their own weight in flight).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:08, April 2, 2013 (UTC)

Family name
+
Saw your note. I'm forwarding that page to the appropriate parties here. Thanks!!

On the SSM section of Westeros.org - the site is down again right now - GRRM actually outlines how surnames work in Westeros. Basically, there are no hard and fast rules. A woman from a powerful family might choose to keep her name if marrying into a less powerful one, explaining Cersei; Robert might be king, but the Lannisters are richer, older and more powerful by themselves than the Baratheons. OTOH, the Starks and Arryns are far more ancient, powerful and richer than the Tullys, so Cat and Lysa change their surnames. With equal families there might be a bit of give or take between them. This doesn't really help with the Talisa situation though, since the rules for changing names between Westerosi and Essosi marriages have never been established. Talisa now being called "Talisa Maegyr Stark" might be the best course, since, even if she is related to the ruling Maegyrs of Volantis, the Starks are still considerably more ancient (Winterfell having been founded 3,000 years earlier even than Valyria).--Werthead (talk) 17:50, April 2, 2013 (UTC)

Uh...I'm hoping this isn't a major "thing" and is just an "incident" of "Faith Militant toughs rough up homosexuals at Littlefinger's brothel"....but then the regular City Watch steps in and saves him (possibly part of the same scene I hope for, since "Kissed by Fire"; Loras is in bed with Olyvar but looking annoyed, then he says he's realized he's just "drowning his sorrows" and will never love after Renly, so he wants to join the Kingsguard....then Faith Militant toughs burst in and drag him into the street...then hopefully he gets rescued and joins the Kingsguard.
I clearly heard "Marei". Don't remember well the other two.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 02:54, April 15, 2013 (UTC)

:Problem is that I'd only be spelling them phonetically. Funny thing is I heard complaints that there was "a lot of nudity" in this episode, but to be honest, I think it's not too bad so long as 1 - It's an established, canon couple (Robb/Talisa - why was there no Eddard/Catelyn as in the books?), or 2 - it's an actual brothel with "customers". Some of the "sexposition" scenes strained credibility. But "Tyrion and Bronn reward Pod with a trip to Littlefinger's brothel" - plausible enough without inventing new..."scenarios". --The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:00, April 15, 2013 (UTC)

Crud. This might turn out to actually be a good way to give Loras more to do...IF it has no long-term side-effects. We've never really seen, say...a Septon's sermon preaching that homosexuality is a sin, and Loras looking upset about it (which he probably did at some point in his life). So we get to see Loras facing some real discrimination, fine. So long as it has no lasting effects that drastically alter his long-term storyline.

: If Loras is executed... we riot! This is a serious concern because (although we don't know what GRRM has planned for the character) it seems like he's just waiting to die on Dragonstone at the moment. I don't doubt that the seige will be cut entirely. TV-first fans don't care that Dragonstone needs to be retaken, and I can't see D&D spending time and money on a non-essential battle scene... full of expensive CGI and stunwork... not a chance! Much easier to just say that Stannis took his entire garrison North with him, and the Island is now abandoned, and then have Cersei weaken the Tyrells by having Loras arrested by the High Sparrow. We know he's having another scene with Olyvar next seasons, so presumably the arrest immediately follows this. I have no hope for Olyvar... he'll probably be killed on the spot, with Loras, as a high-born taken to the Sept of Baelor to be made an example of. Hi The Dragon Demands. We will not be removing Adam as a panelist. He has our full support as a representative both of Wikia and Game of Thrones Wiki, and he has been very successful at that in past appearances. We are looking forward to seeing him again in New York and continuing to work with him.

If the community feels Adam shouldn't be an administrator anymore, then the community can hold a vte on that. There is a clear and established community-based process for admin removal. Wikia Staff does not get involved in that, because it is a local decision.

Ships
+
Finally, and most importantly, we consider your comment about asking convention security to "forcibly remove" Adam from the panel to be a threat. We have therefore contacted the convention organizers and are revoking your pass to the event. You will not be in attendance at the panel, and you will not be given a pass to enter the convention from Wikia. - <font color="#1A2BBB">Brandon Rhea</font><staff /><font color="#1A2BBB">(talk)</font> 21:44, October 7, 2014 (UTC)

Just finished the episode... one word. WOW! You were right about Dany! That was just amazing! 06:12, April 22, 2013 (UTC)
+
Well, I'm not sure...I tried going by D&D alignment, but the characters are so complex this isn't always clear.

:I told you: book 3 is why people are Daenerys fans, not even the book 1 Dothraki stuff so much (as a guy, the whole "swept away by fierce barbarian whom I nonetheless master with seduction" pulp trashy romance novel storyline kind of stuff....I really don't grasp very well. But that's why I didn't think to make a Dany/Drogo page...). The idiot hands her the whip. Oh god you should have seen this in the books: the cat-o-nine-tails they give her has razor-blades stuck at the ends so it will really tear flesh off of any slave you hit with it: after saying "a dragon is no slave", Daenerys punctuates this by quickly slashing the whip across Kraznys' face....ripping a large amount of Kraznys' flesh off his face. TV show chose not to do that, eh, might have been too much for TV.
+
"Lawful" is fairly clear:

:From here on out, this Targaryen party is going on tour.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 06:18, April 22, 2013 (UTC)
+
*Lawful Good = Eddard Stark
  +
*Lawful Neutral = Stannis Baratheon
  +
*Lawful Evil = Tywin Lannister (generally; the Red Wedding verged on Neutral Evil, but he felt it was necessary to swiftly end the war)

::I cannot wait! That ending gave me chills!!! It was AHHH, just so great! BTW, I noticed you've been blocking a lot of users who may or may not be CestWhat. We need to somehow be really sure it's the sockpuppet before blocking. I'd hate if we blocked innocent editors. Oh, I was really surprised by Joer's death too! I didn't see that coming! 07:22, April 22, 2013 (UTC)
+
*Neutral Good = Daenerys Targaryen (unlike the Starks, if she thinks you're a "bad" person she won't pardon you as the honorable thing to do - she will crucify you. That's how the Targaryens have always rolled, back to Aegon I: if you're part of the program, he'll be kind to you. Oppose him, he'll burn you.)
  +
*Chaotic Good = "the Rebel" - fighting against the rules for a good cause (arguably Robb Stark was this, but I don't think leading a secession movement counts - his own men didn't think of him as a lone rebel). So...arguably Arya Stark.

:::They follow an insultingly similar pattern: no one else is really editing dialogue templates and working on family trees, I mean *new* users don't just jump on and start doing that. So far, anyway, no one has followed up by complaining (using anonymous IP address) that their account was banned for no reason; pretty sure it was actually CestWhat each time.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:32, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
+
*Neutral Evil - not really concerned with the rules, just their own selfish ends: Littlefinger and Cersei.
  +
*Chaotic Evil - a raving psychopathic maniac, not even beholden to "rules" for himself. On the one hand this makes him dangerous and unpredictable, but on the other hand, makes him too unstable to make reliable long term plans (more a raving beast than "the Overlord"). Joffrey Baratheon and Ramsay Snow.

Certain bastard
+
Now I'm fairly clear on the aforesaid...except for Chaotic Good, that was a bit more grey, there's no "Robin Hood" in this (well, the Brotherhood Without Banners, but they're not as prominent in the show lately). But might as well use Arya.

Soo.. from what we've learned from the fourth episode this season, do you think it's safe to unite the pages of certain character and certain Boy, or do you think that we stil need a confirmation? --KIWIBOλ (talk) 21:45, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
+
The next two kind of stumped me:
:I think it would still be a spoiler by this point. Perhaps after "Kissed by Fire" we'll be able to merge them. 20:44, April 22, 2013 (UTC)
+
  +
*True Neutral and Chaotic Neutral = The Outsider and the Nomad, as they say. True Neutral is concerned purely with his own interests, while the Chaotic Neutral is actively rebelling against any forms of control.

::We've all known who is who since before Season 3 began. It's not a matter of if "we" fans know: the wiki needs to be spoiler-free for fans who haven't read the books. Similarly, when Season 1 began, we couldn't just write "Joffrey isn't really Robert's son", that was obvious, but had to wait until the show actually revealed it. So until we hear "the name" on screen, we can't use it - heck, his name hasn't actually appeared in dialogue at all yet; his dad refers to "his bastard" but that's it.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:00, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
+
The problem is that the distinction between True Neutral and Chaotic Neutral is kind of subtle. Chaotic Neutral actively revolts against any rules, craving their nomadic freedom; True Neutrals are so concerned on basic survival and avoiding getting involved that they'll put up with rules and structures so long as they don't particularly affect them. Han Solo at the beginning of Star Wars is True Neutral, while Jack Sparrow is Chaotic Neutral (openly stating that he lives as a pirate because being on a ship in the ocean not beholden to any laws is the ultimate freedom).

::His name is mentioned in a letter, but lets keep it that way for now.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 00:04, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
+
Tyrion is sort of True Neutral because he's just worried about survival. He doesn't particularly care for rules but also frowns on breaking them, he's altruistic when he can be but also can do some fairly self-serving things (at times he's verging on Neutral Good). Meanwhile, Sandor Clegane is now closest to Chaotic Neutral, focusing purely on his own survival...though arguably that's True Neutral, because he hates rules but usually isn't bothered by them if they don't get in his way. Jaime Lannister, also, kind of True Neutral verging on Chaotic Neutral - he doesn't want to claim the throne, rejects positions of authority, all he wanted in life was to be with the woman he loved - and good or evil, lawful or chaotic, anything that stands in his way he'll (grudgingly) get rid of -- though living through the Mad King's court has made him hate people who are outright evil or chaotic, pushing him back into the True Neutral camp.
:::While they did release a good official photo of that letter in the "Inside the Episode" feature, it wasn't visible on-screen. Again the casual fans don't really pay attention to such things.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:07, April 24, 2013 (UTC)

Skinner
+
This doesn't even cover the whole Margaery-Cersei dichotomy (Cersei is rude and blunt and hates "women", wishing she were born a man, while Margaery tries to use the carrot instead of the stick, and "manipulate" people by giving them things they actually want, and embracing her femininity to seduce people).

That's what I've been saying about all of the characters who don't have names who've been given them on the wiki :) For this one in particular, I have no idea. Mago was explicitly named on-screen and then killed off (when he's set to reappear, apparently in a fairly major way, in Book 6). Who knows what's going on with Marillion? So the character being killed off has no real bearing on whether he's the book character or not. In this instance I'd call him Master Torturer until we get any more confirmation.--Werthead (talk) 09:26, April 24, 2013 (UTC)
+
That's all I have at the moment. The problem is that many of the characters are so grey and nuanced.

:: I sent them a special contact request months ago and never heard anything back. Chist, look at Tommen's and Maegor's! I've had to shrink them down to 10px! You can barely see them... it's not worth it. There may be a simpler solution: moving the sigils above the infoboxes, and using margin code to make them align. :1 - Yes. 2 - While inappropriate now, if/when Bureaucrat vote succeeds, we need to start listing/discussing new Admins to promote, 3 - Lorisa214 proved to be a reliable editor in Season 3 - though understandably she wasn't really around much in Season 4, due to running Reign Wiki, 4 - IF she is willing to put in the time commitment, she could be an Admin candidate, 5 - I would openly pursue an affirmative action policy to make as many female Admins as we can, to try to balance things out (to be honest the only other prominent potential female candidate is RachelP...also from Australia). As for Bureaucrat rights...they said we had to hold a vote, so I started the vote. Then, to make sure it was legit, I sent Talk messages to all users with over 100 edits (by going down a list) as you may have seen last week. Not necessarily everyone, but I made sure to message a couple of dozen people, accounting for most anyone with a stake in things.

::We're discussing this over on the episode talk page. But yeah, Shireen was also removed as were some other third-tier characters, so I think there's a chance they might later choose to forget that they said he is "the" heir. I've already asked about this in the cargo cult.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:12, April 29, 2013 (UTC)

...I do not know how long the vote needs to last, exactly, but I think "One Week" sounds standard. Which would be around midnight tomorrow night. So my basic plan was to wait another...9 plus 24 = 33 hours or so, until after midnight Monday, and only then try to contact Wikia Staff again and point out "We've had the vote open for a week, that seems to be standard voting time, I think the vote is finished unless you insist otherwise" etc.

The two might not be removed in the series, it could simply be that Loras was made the eldest son rather than Willas.

Bracket Tournament
  +
Here's another one for you -

Hemmlock
+
I'm working on a list of 32 characters - who are not deceased as of the Season 4 finale - for the bracket tournament. Having trouble rounding out the 32, they don't so much need to be plausible as having a shot at the iron throne, but as having fans who would wish they could sit upon it. Also, this isn't necessarily a literal "fight" for the throne, but more like who's most likely to "fight, scheme, or claw" their way to it. This is ignoring such things as the fact that members of the knights watch *should* be ruled out, since obviously there are those who would vote for Jon & even Sam. However, characters like Gilly or Missandei for instance... probably don't belong on the list as it's too far of a stretch. Therein lies my problem, once all the obvious & main characters are on the list, I'm having trouble coming up with enough to make the full 32. Since you are far more familiar with the secondary characters than I am, can you help me finish (and update, feel free to nix anyone you see fit) this list?

How did you know it was another sockpuppet?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 00:02, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Here's who I have so far, we just need an even 32:

:I don't know for sure. I've come to suspect anyone working on family tree templates, because rarely will new users start working on those. I suspect anyone who recently joined the wiki, provides no background information or outside confirmation of identity. Well, new to "wikia" - some people are "new" but have clearly had a long editing history on other Wikia sites, that proves they're not sockpuppets. HOWEVER, my running theory has been that if I ban someone who turns out to not be CestWhat, they'd complain about it. So far, no one has complained, leading me to believe it is indeed Cestwhat.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 02:52, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure this user is another CestWhat sock-puppet, but I've filed a "check user" request with the Wikia staff, just to make sure. I'm also going to inquire into ways of dealing with her permanently; for example: blocking her actual IP range, and preventing her from editing Wikia in it's entirety. She must be creating dozens of new accounts each week in anticipation of being blocked.-- 09:01, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

:I'm completely willing to block the entire geographical region of Toronto if that's what it takes. Indeed, I've been blocking Toronto-based anonymous IP addresses on sight and will continue to do so. The only reason I haven't is because our blocking tools can't easily be set up to block areas by geographical region. Yes, one bad user can and did "ruin it" for an entire major world city; there will never be another Toronto-based editor on this wiki for the next five seasons that this TV series runs and beyond (unless, they already have a profile on another Wikia site, dating to before 2013, so we know it isn't CestWhat). If the inhabitants of Toronto are upset about this, they should take it up with CestWhat. Until such time as the inhabitants of Toronto string up CestWhat from a lamppost...the entire city must be blocked forever.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:02, May 1, 2013 (UTC)

Daenerys, Stannis, Shireen, Gendry, Tommen, Myrcella.

::: She's clearly obsessed. Although I wish we could block entire geographical regions - knowing CestWhat - she'd probably move to Azerbaijan, or someplace; anything to continue making minor edits on a wiki whose community wants nothing whatsoever to do with her. Anyway, I was right about Clearen, and I've asked Wikia to check the IP's of some other accounts that have been cropping up recently. At this stage that's all we can do.-- 09:31, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

Myrcella's cool, but she only really comes to the fore in later books - matching when she returns in Season 5. Martin planned these books out in advance: Tommen, Myrcella, and Rickon Stark were nobodies in Season 1, but he knew the story would stretch on for years and that they'd grow into major figures later. Basically...out of Tywin's three children, it was Tyrion who inherited his extreme intellect. Similarly, in the next Lannister generation...Myrcella inherited all of the smarts. She's basically Tyrion's intellect and respect for the downtrodden (from being abused by Joffrey for years), but with the looks of a young teenaged Cersei. Characters in Dorne remark on how she's smarter than most adults they know, and are baffled that Cersei all but ignored the one of her children best suited to be a monarch (the irony being that Cersei is angry that her own father Tywin ignored her to focus on Jaime...then she did the exact same thing to her own children, focusing on Joffrey to the exclusion of her other two children. Reap as you sow, really.

But that's just rival claimants and stuff. Broadening the term we get "sit on the Iron Throne" in the generic sense of "controls the throne", which goes on to include Littlefinger, Varys, Olenna and Margaery Tyrell.

So there's 11 right there. I'd say "Cersei" but she's kind of ruling through Tommen right now but...screw it, put in Cersei: a question of "will Tommen ever overcome Cersei's domination?". That gives us 12.

I'm confused by the dragon being size of a "Small Dog". That's a rough description. The dragon's look huge, more like a large dog, not like a small "Beagle" or "terrier". 18:09, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
Jaime refused the throne numerous times, he doesn't even want to be Hand of the King. Should put Tyrion in though...he's a "faction" unto himself now, but without saying much, he may have fled for now but his idea is to side with Cersei's enemies because it will be easier to take down the Lannisters if they have a rival Lannister heir to put in charge of Casterly Rock in her place. Bronn, of course, I say with all sincerity, deserves a spot on the list: he's gone from wandering mercenary to a member of the minor nobility; now he just has to get rid of his wife's older sister and he'll be Lord of Stokeworth. At the rate he's going...so that gives us 14.

:Well, in comparison to a mastiff or a St. Bernard. We're talking about the dragon's body core, not the wings. Daenerys specifically points out in the books that dragons are actually a lot smaller than they seem at first, because they're mostly wing, tail, and neck -- they have to be, in order to be light enough that their wings can proportionately give them enough lift to fly at all.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:11, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
+
Sansa Stark is slowly but surely turning into her own "faction" trying to dominate the realm - for the moment by siding with Littlefinger, but she's starting to "play the game" of politics in the Vale. 15.
::Ok, that makes sense. I could see them more the size of a Beagle now, rather than a Mastiff lol 18:41, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

:::Weird... I always type "infinite" and the lockdown prodceeds. Have you tried with "indefinite"

I would insist on putting Arianne Martell on the list for...reasons. Not that she's been cast yet, but of the Dornish characters angling for the throne...bringing us to the halfway point, at 16.

I will try indefinite next time :) Thanks 23:34, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

...I would put the Boltons/Freys on, because in the books...well, Lady Ryswell remarks on the Boltons and Freys taking part in the Red Wedding, and why someone as smart as Roose would think he could get away with something like that - they had Lannister backing. Similarly, Cersei and the Lannisters are now trying to distance themselves from their erstwhile Frey/Bolton allies, because they're the ones that literally got blood on their hands. So they want to blame the Freys and Boltons for being the ones who broke guest right....but Lady Ryswell says that she thinks Roose's plan all along was to turn it around and blame the Red Wedding on the Lannisters, accurately pointing out that it was the Lannisters who "gave the orders" to do it...and somehow Roose intends to manipulate this and turn it around to declare Northern independence yet again...just under Bolton kings. Meanwhile, Ramsay's a psychopath, but he's Roose's only living son, and Roose privately admits that Ramsay will kill any new children he fathers with Fat Walda rather than see a rival heir -- and there's little Roose can or will do to stop him, because he feels that "child heirs are the death of Great Houses" -- which is becoming very apparent with the young boy-king Tommen -- so he's settling for the lesser of two evils, and grooming Ramsay as his heir as best he can...to the North certainly, to a Bolton-ruled kingdom of the North? Possibly.

I don't think Mance is a good choice because he's kind of beaten at this point, same with Tormund. Similarly, Jorah's an outcast. Daario doesn't make much more sense...unless you mean in the sense that he'd be Daenerys's consort?... Gregor Clegane doesn't make much sense, he's kind of unconscious now and not really ruling before that.

Davos and Melisandre kind of make sense in the meaning of "who will functionally rule through Stannis?" (like the angel and demon on his shoulders). Bringing us to 20.

...frankly you can keep Jon Snow on the list, due to the whole L+R=J...thing...

In the books Ramsay has only recently been taken away from his existence as a peasant and made a member of House Bolton (only a year or so before AGoT), so this kind of power is still new to him, and Theon is certainly the first highborn person to come into his power. So I think it's basically that: a grubby worm (though intelligent) raised to high station who can get back at the world for the misfortunes of his early life, and the more powerful the person he can humiliate and break, the better.--Werthead (talk) 10:23, May 13, 2013 (UTC)

Hello! Yes I've read the books, but not all of them. I think the first 3, I can't remember if I started on the fourth or not. I skipped a couple chapters, like what's going on with the two younger Stark kids b/c I don't like them. I started reading after the show aired. So basically i'm still working on finishing. (I'm also reading the last book of Eragon, & it's like 1,000 pages) I'm still debating if I'm going to read ahead. I just want to know whats going to happen to Danny! B/c I love her the most! (& Jon better not be related to her, b/c though they've never met, I want them to be a couple! b/c Jon's comfortable around strong women and they both just want to be loved) Really, I'm nervous about who's going to die is what I'm getting at. Those two cannot. Side not about Jaime and Brienne, I want them to be a couple?? But Brienne's too good for J b/c he's hooking up w his sis. As a twin, it makes me want to vomit.

Greetings my Lord,
:I'm excited because I know what happens in the book, but I'm not really sure where the cutoff point is going to be. Certain events which blatantly happened in the last 50 pages or so of the book certainly won't appear, but other major events might happen. Like, the Joffrey/Margaery wedding introduces many new characters such as Oberyn Martell, but they haven't even been cast yet (not too spoilery to say that the wedding is going to happen, they've been setting it up). So I don't know if they're going to have the Joffrey/Margaery wedding.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 17:26, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

::Yeah I wasn't sure about that either... since Jaime is returning, and there will be a certain moment... in a certain "Sept".. lol. I'm not quite sure how this will play out. That's a lot to fill in one hour, but I suppose it could be done. 17:30, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

:::One of the big shocks of the Red Wedding is that it really happens in the middle of the third book, maybe even a little before the middle; it isn't even at the part of the book you expect a climax like that. I think it may have been a mistake for the TV show to put it at episode 9, because something "big" always happens at the end of the season, in episode 9 (Ned's execution, Battle of the Blackwater). Though on the other hand they split book 3 across Season 3 and Season 4 (because it's the longest book), and this is preferable to cramming it all in one season, even though it means the Red Wedding ended up being used as the "season finale" of sorts (episode 10 is always an epilogue). But yeah, I thought they might do more of one storyline or another (pushing Daenerys and Jon Snow's entire storylines into season 4), but instead, it's been pretty even across all storylines so far: the Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, and Night's Watch storylines are all roughly in synch with the point they were at in the middle of the third book when the Red Wedding happened.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 17:37, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

I am currently reading the books. I started reading them after the latest season, as I needed to quench my GoT thirst. I am still trying to finish, and am reading at my own pace (as in not trying to sync it with the show). I've finished the first book and am at the beginning of the second. I am a male. I hail from the lands of the Niagara region, Ontario, Canada.
Hey, I know it is not a complete quote, but as I explained in a past edit summary, an extra piece of information has a comma before it, here is an example:

:Eddard Stark to his bastard son, Jon Snow.
+
I'm a huge fan of the new menu. The only suggestion I have for it is maybe changing "Boltons/Freys" to "Bolton/Frey"? The rest of the houses are all singular (Stark, Lannister, etc.) and it just seems a little awkward to have "Boltons/Freys" be different.--Iron Bank (talk) 16:01, October 26, 2014 (UTC)

Hi TDD,

I'm just wondering, because Iwan Rheon gave a nice interview about his development of Ramsay with D&D. Among the aspects of his character they discussed was the conception by rape, and the murder of Domeric. Should this information be taken as canon?-- 10:47, June 12, 2013 (UTC)
+
To answer your census data questions:
:Things actors state in interviews are slightly below the aired episodes in terms of canon (i.e. if Finn Jones talked about Willas and Garlan, then an episode said he's the only Tyrell son, he would be mistaken). At least, such actor statements would go under the "Behind the Scenes" section, as anything an actor says is at least "relevant". In general, though, we wouldn't put information about Domeric in the main sections of articles; even if the actor mentions the murder, it hasn't happened in the show yet - however, it would go on his page under "behind the scenes" and later get "promoted" to the main canon section.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:58, June 12, 2013 (UTC)

*Tarths: Likewise

*Tyrells: Like you said: Margaery, then Loras, then Willas and then Garlan.

*Freys: I guess in the following seasons we'll get more Freys and, hopefully, we'll get a viewers guide tree

*Karstarks: Lets have one with only Torrhen and Harrion and update it if new Karstarks appear in the future.

*Pooles: The Pooles deserve one

* Marbrands: Addam "appeared" and Damon was mentioned, they deserve one as well.

:Martin himself has acknowledged how vague and nonspecific his ranks and terminology of nobility are: everyone who isn't a king is called a "lord" instead of "Duke" or something. :In general, I thought we were using the dotted lines to represent "significant romantic pairing" that wasn't a marriage, i.e. Loras and Renly, and that this went up to and including betrothal. Myrcella and Trystane do seem to have a surprisingly good relationship, all things considered. ::: Well, those screenshots haven't been confirmed to be legit yet, though I'm sure they probably are. I will be getting the game at some point, but I can't even begin to think how we'd incorporate this information here... we'd have to split all our articles up into separate namespaces: "Show" and "Game", presumably? Trying to put game exclusive information into our existing show articles will be a nightmare. Surely Ascent is set within the show universe as well? Like the Dragon said, we don't include that stuff here; nor do we include material from the 2012 role-play game. I don't agree with this at all, and will definitely want to see an official statement from HBO that says the game is canon.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner 11:40, November 18, 2014 (UTC)

:::: If the game is consistent with the events from the show, I doubt much would have to be done to existing pages. I imagine it would really only be an issue for characters from the show appearing in the games. The Walking Dead wiki incorporates video game characters creating a second page for their game appearances 9http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Hershel_Greene_(Video_Game)). Alternatively a section could be added to the bottom of character pages for events in the game as well, so instead of having to duplicate content readers can just scroll to the bottom and read about the game events easily there. We could also help out if decided to go any of those above routes. I don't think it would be as daunting as you might think, especially because these games tend to be short and released once a month or so. As for Ascent or the RPG, I don't think either are HBO Officially licensed are they? Even if they are, both that and the RPG are not narrative-driven games like Telltale's at least, which is more like an interactive show than a game really. Unless a separate wiki is created this wiki is going to get a fair bit lot of attention when this game comes out, in fact it would probably get a fair bit of attention anyway, this isn't like the other games on this wiki, the episodes for it will be released around a month or two apart so the attention won't go away after a couple of weeks.<br> I've seen the kind of attention Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us have received and assuming that this game will be no different you are going to have people coming here to add the kind of depth that Wikipedia wouldn't go into and then use that as a way of discussing the game, on TWD wiki's Forum the Video Game discussion section has more threads and posts than any other section including the comic and TV show sections combined, and yes at least 90% of the time they would be referring to the Telltale one, I'm not saying the attention will be that high for GOT but it could still get a high level of attention.<br> My point is that when this game is released you will have a fair bit of attention to put it mildly and if you haven't figured out how you're going to handle it things may get a little chaotic and that wouldn't be good for anyone.<br> Personally I think Jorge is right and I would like it if we found a way to integrate the game into this wiki rather than splitting off into a second one, regardless I think you will have to at least make pages for the episodes due to the detail level.<br>

...yeah. I'm not really sure how to proceed. Hey, Dragon! Our bracket tournament is nearing the end and the personality quiz is still getting some traffic, but we were hoping to get more eyes on both those items. With that said, I can't remember if we discussed sending out a Community Message about them? It would be great if we could use that feature to promote one or both of those programs to people that visit this wikia :) Let me know what you think! C2E2 Edit

http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Werthead/GAME_OF_THRONES_WIKI_at_C2E2_Chicago

"Wikia will be hosting a panel at C2E2 in Chicago on 26 April. They're flying me in specially for the event (!) and Kristian Nairn will also be part of the panel. "

I wrote up a lot of questions for this when the Wikia Staffers asked us to submit Q&A questions. http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Brian_Linder/Post_Your_Questions_for_Hodor_Actor_Kristian_Nairn http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Gcheung28/Post_Questions_for_Theon/Reek_Actor_Alfie_Allen

I was very excited that Wikia got to set up a panel with cast members like this.

I have been unable to find any major reports or video of the panel.

What was it like? Was any of our submitted Q&A answered?

I don't understand: how was this panel associated with Wikia as a topic?

How did you promote or discuss Game of Thrones Wiki at the panel? What did the cast have to say about it? (we always hope they read our stuff)

I wasn't sure what had happened.

Then the thought occurred to check the archives of your WertZone blog, and you did give a brief report there:

http://thewertzone.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-american-trip.html
"One of the several other hats I wear is the founder and admin of the Game of Thrones Wiki, which has reached a high of 12 million hits per week during this season.
"The panel seemed to be successful.

This is sort of brief and I'm not sure from it how much Game of Thrones Wiki was discussed.

Will you have time to do a more detailed writeup of this event during this weekend?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 06:11, August 15, 2014 (UTC)

Adam I asked you about this over a week ago.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:17, August 24, 2014 (UTC)

GOT Community AppEdit

Hey, Dragon! Wikia is in the process of working on a Game of Thrones Wiki community app and we could really use your help! Would you or the other admins mind helping us curate categories for the GOT Community App? The curation lives on this page and there are instructions on there for adding/removing categories that will appear in the app itself. Let me know if you have any questions! P.S. The page says Game Guides right now but that will change eventually! Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 21:30, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

Sure! Let me know if you have any questions once you've read it. This essentially is going to be a guide for users about Game of Thrones which is why we need the most important categories listed out for people that want to learn about the series through the wikia. Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 18:26, September 8, 2014 (UTC)

Wonky sigils, part 2 Edit

I'm at a loss as to what is causing this... but one possible fix might be to move them above the infobox, as AWoIaF does. We could even create special shield shaped versions for this purpose.--Ser Patrek (talk) 10:02, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

Ah, I think I've found the answer: The files size for some of these heraldry images are simply too large, (over 1,000px in some cases) they're overloading the "name" field.
Ahh, thank you for figuring that out!!! Talk about driving me nuts! QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 15:07, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

Flags and shields Edit

I'm fixing up the infobox heraldry at the moment, but I had an idea that I wanted to run by you. What if I created special flag icons that are just for articles on locations. Like so.--Ser Patrek (talk) 07:44, September 9, 2014 (UTC)
Bolton mini flag
Bolton mini flag
Well those are fun, but we don't have the "official"...tail design? for every house. Most use the foreground color (Baratheon uses black tails, Bolton uses red tails) but some use alternate colors (Starks apparently use a green tail in the TV version? Or something?)...and I'm not even sure what multi-colored ones like the Tullys would use...
(shrug) might as well use it for the ones we know like the Boltons and Baratheons, etc.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:21, September 15, 2014 (UTC)

Titancon 2014 World of Ice and Fire readingEdit

Any link to a summary or something like that?--Gonzalo84 (talk) 00:52, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

Starts here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/116987-titancon-2014-world-reading/page-4

The reading was from the chapter on Aegon III the Dragonbane, which should give some hints at how the Dance of the Dragons ended.

 • Cregan Stark and the rest of the Northern army finally arrived south, but by then the war had ended (Aegon II died through as yet unknown circumstances leaving Aegon III as the only male heir).
 • Most of Cregan's army, however, stayed behind: again, many were younger second sons who were too young at the start of the war, but many still had surviving older brothers/fathers. Some swore themselves to southron lords, others became sellswords, but many became bandits - which was already a serious problem due to the breakdown in public order caused by the Dance itself.
 • Once Aegon III actually did come of legal age, the regency council transferred power back to him peacefully and without incident.

Faith of the Seven brand Edit

Faith Militant mini brand

I've created a Seven-Pointed Star brand for the Faith Militant article, and a mini version for relevant character articles. Would you mind adding it to the High Sparrow article?--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 10:06, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

Oh, and though I'm sure you've already seen the WotW posts with the photos of the Faith Militant there's was a suggestion in the comments that Loras would be taking on some sort of Lancel-like role. I mean, he was dressed in all black, which he's never done before...--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 10:15, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

I think those are just Loras's bedclothes, or his undergarments; i.e. he just took his armor off, or his formal tunic off. I see no...specific reason to suspect major changes.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:44, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

...Wait, I'm not sure where to put it in the High Sparrow article. The regular "High Septon" or "Mordane" articles don't use the normal Faith of the Seven sigil anymore.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:59, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

Oh shit, It's worse than that. A new video of filming in Croatia shows Loras being restrained and dragged away by the Sparrows! Looks like he's being arrested for "sword swallowing". [1]. As for the brand, I think it should be okay in Faith Militant character infoboxes as they do wear the scar/brand as outward display of affiliation. Just like heraldry, but more gruesome.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 20:10, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

.......(long pause).....oh....no......

(Jaw hanging open for a minute)

Oh god.

Oh, you reminded me: "during the Andal Invasion, with the zeal of their new faith, the Andals would carve Seven-pointed stars into their flesh" -- that must be what the TV show is taking its cue from. Good book reference, actually. But I can't tell if they are brands or carved.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:16, September 28, 2014 (UTC)

If Loras is executed... Damn them!--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 11:10, September 29, 2014 (UTC)
Confirmed: The Sparrows invade Littlefinger's brothel. [2].--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 15:20, September 29, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Vote of No Confidence in Adam Whitehead (Werthead) Edit

Hi The Dragon Demands. We will not be removing Adam as a panelist. He has our full support as a representative both of Wikia and Game of Thrones Wiki, and he has been very successful at that in past appearances. We are looking forward to seeing him again in New York and continuing to work with him.

If the community feels Adam shouldn't be an administrator anymore, then the community can hold a vte on that. There is a clear and established community-based process for admin removal. Wikia Staff does not get involved in that, because it is a local decision.

- Brandon Rhea@Wikia(talk) 21:44, October 7, 2014 (UTC)

RE: GoT Personality QuizEdit

Greetings, good sir - may I ask what your picks would be for 6 fan-relatable characters with varying personalities?

Siggy4.png @@Wikia (profile)•(talk) 18:43, October 15, 2014 (UTC)

Well, I'm not sure...I tried going by D&D alignment, but the characters are so complex this isn't always clear.

"Lawful" is fairly clear:

 • Lawful Good = Eddard Stark
 • Lawful Neutral = Stannis Baratheon
 • Lawful Evil = Tywin Lannister (generally; the Red Wedding verged on Neutral Evil, but he felt it was necessary to swiftly end the war)
 • Neutral Good = Daenerys Targaryen (unlike the Starks, if she thinks you're a "bad" person she won't pardon you as the honorable thing to do - she will crucify you. That's how the Targaryens have always rolled, back to Aegon I: if you're part of the program, he'll be kind to you. Oppose him, he'll burn you.)
 • Chaotic Good = "the Rebel" - fighting against the rules for a good cause (arguably Robb Stark was this, but I don't think leading a secession movement counts - his own men didn't think of him as a lone rebel). So...arguably Arya Stark.
 • Neutral Evil - not really concerned with the rules, just their own selfish ends: Littlefinger and Cersei.
 • Chaotic Evil - a raving psychopathic maniac, not even beholden to "rules" for himself. On the one hand this makes him dangerous and unpredictable, but on the other hand, makes him too unstable to make reliable long term plans (more a raving beast than "the Overlord"). Joffrey Baratheon and Ramsay Snow.

Now I'm fairly clear on the aforesaid...except for Chaotic Good, that was a bit more grey, there's no "Robin Hood" in this (well, the Brotherhood Without Banners, but they're not as prominent in the show lately). But might as well use Arya.

The next two kind of stumped me:

 • True Neutral and Chaotic Neutral = The Outsider and the Nomad, as they say. True Neutral is concerned purely with his own interests, while the Chaotic Neutral is actively rebelling against any forms of control.

That's all I have at the moment. The problem is that many of the characters are so grey and nuanced.

Infobox heraldry Edit

It's happening again. I'm afraid we're going to have to either A: remove the heraldry entirely... or B: remodel our infoboxes so they use the same coding makeup as the ones from AWoIaF. Neither choice is particularly appealing, but I can't see any other option.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 09:19, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

...Crud.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:49, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

Those damn things have never worked for me, and I am sick of the wonky banners! lol Have we ever asked Wikia for help in this matter? QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 23:56, October 18, 2014 (UTC)
I sent them a special contact request months ago and never heard anything back. Chist, look at Tommen's and Maegor's! I've had to shrink them down to 10px! You can barely see them... it's not worth it. There may be a simpler solution: moving the sigils above the infoboxes, and using margin code to make them align. That would be a less extreme option than remodelling the actual templates, but I have no idea if it will work. Let me tinker with it, I'll see if I can rig something up.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 09:04, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Okay, this is what I've got so far... it's a crude solution, and it will be pretty inconvenient adding it to every page. I don't know what else to suggest.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 10:37, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

...looks like the best that can be done. We've been spending too much time fiddling around with the icons inside the infoboxes, and haven't gotten much further. Thanks.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:43, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Righto. It may be possible to incorporate this coding into a template. Something like this:

{{Heraldry |Right shield=Lannister Left shield = Kingsguard

Rollback editor Edit

Hey TDD. Just a quick thing I wanted to run by you. User:Lorisa214 is someone I have worked with for awhile, and I know her as admin on a couple of other Wiki's. She was requesting "Rollback" rights, and I don't have a problem with it, but I wanted to pass it by you and get your thoughts. We could maybe do a 30 day probationary period and if all goes OK, just leave her with the rights. Thoughts? QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 23:55, October 18, 2014 (UTC)

1 - Yes. Well we'll discuss this more later. Specifically what is the extent/function of Rollback rights?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:00, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
It just allows them to instantly undo changes to an article with a single click.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 09:04, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
Oh okay. Does that mean Rollbacks on protected pages too? (Though if it's only a rollback, even that can't drastically change too much that we can't just restore later).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 15:44, October 19, 2014 (UTC)
I don't think they can edit articles that are protected to "admin only", no.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 16:53, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, I just look at the Rollback feature as something for trusted editors to use. It makes editing/undoing things quicker and simpler. Any word on when our bureau rights come into effect? What is the latest with that? QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 19:01, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Oh fine, then, give Rollback rights to any trusted editors (It's like an extension of "Undo" I see).

As for Bureaucrat rights...they said we had to hold a vote, so I started the vote. Then, to make sure it was legit, I sent Talk messages to all users with over 100 edits (by going down a list) as you may have seen last week. Not necessarily everyone, but I made sure to message a couple of dozen people, accounting for most anyone with a stake in things.

...I do not know how long the vote needs to last, exactly, but I think "One Week" sounds standard.

Yeah, so tomorrow night at midnight was when I was going to bring up the issue.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:14, October 19, 2014 (UTC)

Bracket TournamentEdit

Here's another one for you -

Here's who I have so far, we just need an even 32:

 • Tyrion Lannister
 • Cersei Lannister
 • Daenerys Targaryen
 • Arya Stark
 • Jon Snow
 • Sansa Stark
 • Jorah Mormont
 • Jaime Lannister
 • Theon Greyjoy
 • Bran Stark
 • Petyr Baelish
 • Varys
 • Brienne of Tarth
 • Bronn
 • Gendry
 • Margaery Tyrell
 • Stannis Baratheon
 • Mance Rayder
 • Davos Seaworth
 • Melisandre
 • Balon Greyjoy
 • Tormund Giantsbane
 • Samwell Tarly
 • Ramsay Bolton
 • Daario Naharis
 • Gregor Clegane

Thank you in advance, good sir!

Siggy4.png @@Wikia (profile)•(talk) 01:17, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

Well, because I'm all about being thorough, the 32 I'd list based on "plausibility" include:

Daenerys, Stannis, Shireen, Gendry, Tommen, Myrcella.

Sansa Stark is slowly but surely turning into her own "faction" trying to dominate the realm - for the moment by siding with Littlefinger, but she's starting to "play the game" of politics in the Vale. 15.

I would insist on putting Arianne Martell on the list for...reasons. Not that she's been cast yet, but of the Dornish characters angling for the throne...bringing us to the halfway point, at 16.

...I would put the Boltons/Freys on, because in the books...well, Lady Ryswell remarks on the Boltons and Freys taking part in the Red Wedding, and why someone as smart as Roose would think he could get away with something like that - they had Lannister backing. Possibly.

Bringing us up to 18.

I suppose you could put Tycho Nestoris, in the sense of "whoever the Iron Bank of Braavos wants, the realm is bankrupt, Tycho can pretty much choose kings at this point"

Bran has kind of removed himself from the equation at this point...I'd put Rickon in his place because they sort of obviously set up that Rickon is "the surviving male Stark heir" now that Bran is gone.

...getting ahead of ourselves, but if we count Season 5 stuff...the High Sparrow. Readers will know what we mean. 23.

...frankly you can keep Jon Snow on the list, due to the whole L+R=J...thing...

Major points:

Really need to include Shireen and Myrcella. Myrcella is huge in Season 5.

...include Arianne Martell.

If you include Theon, you need to include Yara Greyjoy. Now that Theon is given up for dead, there's this subplot that the ironborn are jockeying for position to be Balon's heir; some say Yara should be Queen of the Iron Islands after Balon, other traditionalists say a woman shouldn't rule and want to make one of Balon's younger brothers king.

If you include Ramsay Bolton you should really include Roose Bolton too.

...you didn't include Olenna or Margaery Tyrell. They're very, very important.

Your list has 25 and you needed 7 more:

 • Shireen Baratheon
 • Myrcella Baratheon
 • Margaery Tyrell
 • Olenna Tyrell
 • Yara Greyjoy
 • Roose Bolton
 • Arianne Martell
 • Tycho Nestoris
 • Rickon Stark

Probably shouldn't include Mance, Tormund, and Gregor.

...I don't know, substitute with "the High Sparrow", "Walder Frey", and "White Walker leader" (from "Oathkeeper")

That's the best I've got for now.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 02:46, October 21, 2014 (UTC)

Your QuestionsEdit

Also, I WAS is Oz, but I'm in Canada at Uni. in Ontario? Are you an Auzzy???

Greetings my Lord,

I am currently reading the books. I started reading them after the latest season, as I needed to quench my GoT thirst. I am still trying to finish, and am reading at my own pace (as in not trying to sync it with the show). I've finished the first book and am at the beginning of the second. I am a male.

More Census Data AnswersEdit

Hi TDD,

To answer your census data questions:

 • I haven't read the books, but I will do so after the show has finished. I've held off reading them as I'd like to enjoy the show on its own terms without worrying about differences to the source text, as I tend to get more annoyed than I should by such differences. I can enjoy the whole thing (or at least as far as GRRM has got when the show finishes) all over again by reading the books.
 • I am male.
 • I live in the south-east of England, so the show airs a day after it does in the States. I record the show as I can't always see it on the day of transmission, but I usually make sure I see it as soon as possible.

Hope this is useful.

Infobox designs Edit

Hey TDD. Ser Patrek and I were having a discussion about the design of infoboxes on the wiki. We think it would be nice to have infoboxes (automatically) change their color based on the allegiance. Till now, I have created an example for the lannisters. What do you think?--~UltimateSupreme 06:26, November 6, 2014 (UTC)

...Well that looks great for Tyrion, but not every character has a House affiliation...and some Houses have colors which might not show up well against our backgrounds. Really great for Tyrion and the Lannisters, though. Do you have ideas for what to use for other character groups?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 19:06, November 7, 2014 (UTC)

Added examples for starks and baratheon as well. Yeah, offcourse there will be a default color scheme for all those (and for episode and other infoboxes). ...I think it's like Ascent and should be separate, but to be honest I know absolutely nothing about it so I'm not sure. Hey folks! Caught this conversation and just wanted to throw in my two cents. HBO and Telltale have both confirmed the consistent events of Telltale's game is show canon, so it may make it more convenient (and less work) to keep it on this wiki. Just an idea. Oh! And we're definitely happy to help you make any adjustments you need to keep it.
Best, Jorge @Wikia(profile)•(talk) 23:34, November 17, 2014 (UTC)

Oh...do you have linked sources for those statements? We should put them in the article. Well, we are covering stuff in "the TV continuity" as a whole including the Blu-ray animated featurettes.

I'll have to keep an eye on this then, though there are other projects I'm getting finished up just now.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:59, November 17, 2014 (UTC)

Yea, as far I understand the game will follow the events concurrent in the show. Some images were actually leaked today showing off some darn good renditions of the actors in the game too. You can check them out right here. Oh, and here's some info about the game being based 100% on show canon.Jorge @Wikia(profile)•(talk) 00:16, November 18, 2014 (UTC)
Well, those screenshots haven't been confirmed to be legit yet, though I'm sure they probably are. I don't agree with this at all, and will definitely want to see an official statement from HBO that says the game is canon.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 11:40, November 18, 2014 (UTC)
If the game is consistent with the events from the show, I doubt much would have to be done to existing pages. Jorge @Wikia(profile)•(talk) 18:01, November 18, 2014 (UTC)

Unless a separate wiki is created this wiki is going to get a fair bit lot of attention when this game comes out, in fact it would probably get a fair bit of attention anyway, this isn't like the other games on this wiki, the episodes for it will be released around a month or two apart so the attention won't go away after a couple of weeks.
I've seen the kind of attention Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us have received and assuming that this game will be no different you are going to have people coming here to add the kind of depth that Wikipedia wouldn't go into and then use that as a way of discussing the game, on TWD wiki's Forum the Video Game discussion section has more threads and posts than any other section including the comic and TV show sections combined, and yes at least 90% of the time they would be referring to the Telltale one, I'm not saying the attention will be that high for GOT but it could still get a high level of attention.
My point is that when this game is released you will have a fair bit of attention to put it mildly and if you haven't figured out how you're going to handle it things may get a little chaotic and that wouldn't be good for anyone.
Personally I think Jorge is right and I would like it if we found a way to integrate the game into this wiki rather than splitting off into a second one, regardless I think you will have to at least make pages for the episodes due to the detail level.
Finally here's a couple of links to give you an example of what I'm talking about because out of context I may look paranoid or delusional.

Great! I'll add them in today :) Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 16:28, November 18, 2014 (UTC)

Done!Edit

I've given back the Image (Character) category to those images I messed around with yesterday. I'm sorry about this, but we learn from our mistakes, don't we? – The Snow Prince (talk) 16:57, November 21, 2014 (UTC)

You are being very obsequious.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 02:13, November 22, 2014 (UTC)

Small Council Edit

Shall we hold a small council meeting to discuss how to proceed regarding the Telltale game.?--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 10:47, November 23, 2014 (UTC)

...yeah. I'm not really sure how to proceed. The thought struck me that if they have the time and resources to make an invented TV/video game storyline, they have the time and resources to make webisodes that tell the ironborn subplot which has been happening "off screen". Well, that only really started in book 4 and they didn't do much in book 3, fair enough. But we're reached the absolute last point that they can mention the ironborn subplot before it becomes problematic.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:25, November 23, 2014 (UTC)

That's an interesting idea. The fact that actors from the show are voicing their own characters has convinced me that game is indeed canon, so right now I'm leaning towards including it here. It's just not practical to start a companion wiki now at this late stage... the damn thing could be released any day now, so whatever we decide we need to do it quick.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 16:53, November 23, 2014 (UTC)
Christ, it's happening already!--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 21:16, November 23, 2014 (UTC)

Telltale Checklist Edit

Okay, so I've written a House Forrester article, complete with sigil; I've created shield and banner icons for heraldry, and added it to the relevant articles; I've set up a "Forrester navbox", and rolled it out, and am in the middle of cleaning up and completing the character articles that we currently know about. I've also made a new image licensing tag for Telltale and tagged the necessary file pages with it, and also made new categories for video game characters and images. I'm determined to get on top of this situation before the first episode is released... is there anything else you want me to do?--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 13:37, November 24, 2014 (UTC)

...I'm not sure. This is amazing work, thank you for jumping onto this.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 22:45, November 24, 2014 (UTC)

Navboxes Edit

Hi, All the navboxes are unreadable as the words blend into the background color. Not very user friendly

This has been on my to-do list for awhile now... apologies for not getting round to it sooner. I'll have a look tomorrow morning.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 11:28, November 29, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I'm painfully aware. Busy with holiday weekend and end of semester projects, will get a better handle on things when real-life stuff gets finished.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:33, November 29, 2014 (UTC)

Checking in Edit

Checking in once again :) How are things going here? QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 19:43, December 1, 2014 (UTC)

Game of Thrones Programming PromotionEdit

Hey, Dragon! Our bracket tournament is nearing the end and the personality quiz is still getting some traffic, but we were hoping to get more eyes on both those items. With that said, I can't remember if we discussed sending out a Community Message about them? It would be great if we could use that feature to promote one or both of those programs to people that visit this wikia :) Let me know what you think! Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 21:35, December 2, 2014 (UTC)

Oh sure, that's fine.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:42, December 3, 2014 (UTC)

Cool, I'll put those out today, thanks :) Grace @Wikia (profile)•(talk) 16:28, December 4, 2014 (UTC)

Back. Edit

Hey Hey, I'll be around a little more now :) Got an internet booster on the way, but for now decided I'll use a hotspot on my cell. Things going good? What is the latest with the game stuff? QueenBuffy35 Crown New Red 17:58, December 7, 2014 (UTC)

Great. Well I'm not sure what's going on with the game, we're at least watching it for info. Westeros.org has an interesting review up discussing canon status.

School semester ends for me on December 18th, then I can finally sit down and get to work on the major projects that need to be done.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 21:07, December 7, 2014 (UTC)

Fannotation VidEdit

Just a heads up that I placed the Fannotation video in the Featured Vid module on the main page! Cheers, Peter@Wikia 19:35, December 8, 2014 (UTC)

Re: Game of Thrones Cast ListEdit

Hey there,

Thank you for getting back to me. She is this Mary Jordan. She scheduled to be in Season 5 Ep. 10. She is trying to get her online presence out there and is in the middle of getting her IMDb page updated as well as her Wikipedia. If we can help her get started that would be great. Thanks again for your response and help.

You have a new message. FishyTicTacs (talk) 22:55, December 17, 2014 (UTC)

Why isn't the lock on my profile off?FishyTicTacs (talk) 23:15, December 18, 2014 (UTC)

Can you please respond?FishyTicTacs (talk) 23:16, December 18, 2014 (UTC)

I did respond to you, on your Talk page. This is my Talk page.

These "are" messages.

For example when you left a message above saying "You have a new message" -- that's like leaving a letter in a mailbox with only "this is a letter" written on it.

Yes, the lock on your profile was removed a while ago.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:12, December 19, 2014 (UTC)

Infoboxes Edit

I've just been speaking with UltimateSupreme, and it seems like we're ready to start rolling out the new infobox template. If you don't mind, could you please make him a temporary administrator while he does this, as he needs to be able to modify the CSS? This would just be while the work is carried out, which won't be for long.--Ser Patrek, the Wolfskinner Ser Patrek mini shield 14:24, December 3, 2014 (UTC)

Would be nice if you could do it now. I'd be free for a while--~UltimateSupreme 08:44, December 19, 2014 (UTC)
