Ser Vardis Egen is a recurring character in Game of Thrones. He is played by Brendan McCormack and débuts in the fifth episode of the first season. He only appears in the first season.
Vardis Egen is a knight in the service of House Arryn. He was captain of Jon Arryn's personal guard in King's Landing and then became captain of the guards in the Eyrie for Robin Arryn and his mother, Lysa Arryn.
Season 1
Vardis leads the group of knights who meet Catelyn Tully and her prisoner Tyrion Lannister before she enters Eyrie.[1] Later on, when Tyrion has demanded a trial by combat, Vardis represents the House Arryn, while Tyrion is represented by the sellsword Bronn. Vardis fought dressed in mail armor and wearing a large shield, however this made him slow and clumsy as opposed to Bronn who wore only a armored shirt. Bronn wins by tiring the heavily armored knight, and, to the astonishment of the Eyrie court, disposes of the body of his opponent by pushing him through the "moon door", a hole leading to a thousand foot drop.[2]
