White Tree Pin

A map showing the location of White Tree on the continent of Westeros.

White Tree is a wildling village located beyond the Wall. It is a small settlement dominated by a large godswood. It is in the far north of the continent of Westeros. It lies in the Haunted Forest, north-west of Castle Black.[1]

History

Season 2

White Tree is found abandoned by the great ranging under Lord Commander Jeor Mormont. All five of the other villages on the journey from Castle Black to Craster's Keep are similarly abandoned. Craster tells Jeor that the wildlings living in villages have gone to join Mance Rayder.[2]

Season 3

Samwell Tarly and Gilly arrive at White Tree as they flee south to the Wall after the Mutiny at Craster's Keep, and decide to take shelter for the night in an abandoned cabin. They are attacked by a White Walker, but Sam manages to kill it with the dragonglass dagger he found at the Fist of the First Men. Shocked at the death of the creature, Sam and Gilly flee south again.[3]

In the books

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, it is spelled "Whitetree". Whitetree is a small wildling village, consisting of only four rough communal cabins, a sheepfold, and a well. Its name comes from the giant weirwood that is in its midst. It is found similarly abandoned in A Clash of Kings.
